Monday, June 28, 2010 9:57:41 PM The international appeal of soccer is the result European colonialism. Other countries came later, but it started because of colonialism. |

I am proud of our great heritage of being absolutely useless at everything we ever invented though. This and of course because we have managed to become probably the second most hated nation on earth for various reasons, most of which we are still unaccountably happy about :) and even the first most hated nation hates us. So all the referees and linesmen hate us and that is a really big advantage to being useless at sport. How the Germans got away with being the third most hated nation on earth evades me, you don't see the Krauts being slagged off on these forums. We are good at motorsport though, but only because the Merkins haven't figured out how to make cars properly or tracks that bend both way yet. |

Monday, June 28, 2010 2:01:11 PM The referee was like 40 yards from the goal line when the ball went about a foot over the line for a split second But the linesman who actually made the call wasn't. |

Monday, June 28, 2010 10:43:02 AM The referee was like 40 yards from the goal line when the ball went about a foot over the line for a split second ... he can't give a goal if he doesn't see it. Anyway, Germany absolutely trounced England, 4-1 was flattering, it was embarrassing to watch. Heres a link for all you bitchy little English hypocrits :)England "goal" |

Monday, June 28, 2010 9:12:35 AM First of all, for all AMERICANS who hate England football team, I am glad that the U.S. team lost just so they get a chance to go home and practice what you guys do best, "dancing with the stars" or "Gridiron". It was a poor call and the game will be a much different game if England's 2nd goal was allowed. Face it, you hate England just because we are GOOD in real FOOTBALL (Yes, the game where you kick the ball with your foot and not use your hand all the time). Do yourselves a favor... before you complain about ENGLAND football team, get your terminology correct. |

Monday, June 28, 2010 7:25:16 AM It's a shame so many people are whining about the whole 4-2/4-1. Yes, it was a poor call, but so was Wembley 66, and all of a sudden NOW it's an outrage that there's no instant replay? England had their moments but let's face it, they were far, far inferior to Germany, who finally played a match like they could and should. |

Monday, June 28, 2010 5:49:19 AM Why doesn't soccer have instant replay and a scoreboard time clock that everyone can see (instead of a secret stopwatch in one officials pocket that no one knows when the half or game exactly ends, or when time is really running or stopped). We don't have instant replays because football is all about free flow of play. You just need to look at the advantage rule to see that. It doesn't stop anywhere near as often as other games, so instant replays would slow and interrupt the game. I am not against the introduction of goal-line tech, but I would be against full replays. Regarding the timing, it's very simple rules - the clock does not stop, ever. It counts upwards to 90 minutes. When the 90 minutes are almost over, the referee announces (via the 4th official) how many minutes will be added due to lost time during the game (called "injury time"). So everyone does, in fact, know how much time is left. |

Monday, June 28, 2010 1:29:27 AM "why doesn't soccer have instant replay" well if they did it would take away the part of the game where people get away with cheating or get to roll around on the floor like a great big girl for 10 minutes. I play rugby hence the comment. |

Monday, June 28, 2010 1:20:06 AM "Why doesn't soccer have instant replay" Because unlike American 'football', soccer does not stop and start every five seconds. The fact that the game is still playing while they show replays means there is a possibility that the fans will miss something happening now while watching something that happened a minute ago. Your point about having a visible clock i can't really see anything wrong with although tickets to soccer games over here are expensive enough without having to add extra for the installation and maintenance of a giant electrical score board |

I understand when soccer was invented back in blahblah year that instant replay and giant time clocks controlled by a time keeping official didn't exist but it's really time to modernize. Drat. |

Sunday, June 27, 2010 10:21:06 PM "I frankly don't care what the ref says the ref was wrong. We have video evidence to prove it and final proof for why FIFA should finally institute a video refereeing system. It was 4 bloody 2!" you can argue that it changed the whole complexion of the game, it would have been way different if the score was 2-2 as supposed to 3-1 |
