Monday, June 21, 2010 2:51:13 AM iceblack: Yes, he's amateur. And he's not very good for amateur. Besides, he's entering a national talent competition, i.e. he's essentially claiming to be the best amateur. That makes it reasonable to compare him with professionals. People are giving professional names because it's easier to find examples of them performing. The point was that if you like this performance, which is opera done not particularly well, you'll probably very much like opera done well. |

Monday, June 21, 2010 2:39:35 AM I was skeptical when he came on, but as he left the stage, I was rooting for him. I can't wait for his next performance. |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 11:42:48 PM not a great singer, but he's interesting and that'll boost TV ratings The show is just like any other tv show -- isn't about talent, it's about viewership |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 5:55:07 PM I have to agree with Pui. He's a good performer but he doesn't have the voice for opera. Maybe he could have a future as a drag queen. |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 2:06:02 PM @iceblack, like I said I've seen two AMATEUR performances of The Barber of Seville (As in people who have day jobs, they don't do this for a living but more as a hobby) and both those performers were better than this guy. Why exactly should I be impressed by this guy's mediocre voice and acting ability? What does he do that is so special that hasn't been done before? It's an enjoyable performance, but hardly amazing. He's trying to get into the professional opera world. In that case, he's got a lot of work to do because I doubt his voice would even carry without a microphone. Overall his performance is a novelty people who know nothing about opera will enjoy very briefly, and the people who appreciate opera won't notice. |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 12:44:17 PM @6point02 Two thumbs up for you. I tried to be respectful, but that's totally true... Anybody can just google "Opera" and think they can judge now |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 12:42:35 PM Everybody saying this is not impressive and that there are better singers. Well, yes... You are giving PROFESSIONAL names What were you specting in this kind of contest? Pavarotti? This is Amateur, the guy clearly is out of tone in many occasions, but he has a good voice considering he probably spends his day dealing with drunks and thieves instead of practicing his performance |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 12:41:15 PM pui, just because "other people are so much better" that doesn't mean he ISN'T good. i think it's awesome that you know your opera, but let the rest of us enjoy this without being an opera snob. |

Sunday, June 20, 2010 12:40:53 PM I think he was pretty damn good...but that's only my musically uneducated and uncultured philistine opinion. |
