Aye, f*ck Shell. F*ck all oil companies. Who needs oil anyways? Ireland can keep its economy ticking over with the spud export business! Right?

America needs to stop the charity crap with the rest of the world and step back and take a look at it's own needy and help them first. In 2009 1/5 of the homeless in America were veterans. Those people lost limbs, comrades, and innocence for a place that would rather give thousands and millions to someplace and someone else who didn't sacrifice a damn thing for this country.

Best idea i've heard all day...but imagine if Afganistan or Iraq had an earthquake tomorrow...America would be obliged to house a nation...maybe if they stopped invading sovergien lands and looked after theyre own people it would be a start...Charity begins at home!

I have to agree with yellow square, when all that crap went down in Haiti, America was shelling out buttload of money and services. We didn't go "oh tough luck Haiti, Count your blessings, look over at this country that has it worse then you and thank your lucky stars you aren't them"

yellow, the intent was "Hey, BP isn't an isolated issue." Just trying to spread the big picture.

Sharing the knowledge one I-A-B page at a time.

Besides, how is it productive? Just exactly how do you think pointing out a more devastating problem is going to fix EITHER problem?

How are British execs and American citizens going to fix a Dutch issue on Nigerian soil?

This kind of "Look, America. You're a bunch of whiny babies" bullpoo is absolutely NOT productive.

Why is it always a competition?! Why does it have to always be "Well, look. It could be worse." And why does this sentiment always come up when speaking about American issues!?

The BP oil spill is a major problem, no denying that. Just because it's not as devastating as Nigeria's problem doesn't mean we should count our blessings and sit back and hope the oil stops gushing out one day.

That's bullpoo. It's NOT a competition to see who has it worst. It never was and it never should be, damn it!

hey davy - glad to hear a voice of reason, and to tell you the truth, I think we agree on little in debate, but I agree with 90% of what you said regarding the oil spill.

No, banging on the podium won't solve anything, but he could waive the Jones act, which is in the link I provided, to let in some of the big international companies like the Dutch, use their ships to help clean the gulf. It is inaction like that that bothers me. I agree, big companies have to stop the link, but any help cleaning it (when offered) would not only build our alliance with other nations, but prove that we are not to proud to ask for help.

Now, concerning Bush and Katrina.. he waited 4 days before he called in support. It is protocol in our nation that states attempt to handle disasters on their own first, and New Orleans refused help. Bush acted in 4 days.

Not really concerned with the politico nature, but this is an Obama fail. He could be doing much more for the situation.

Speaks volumes about the differences in culture. Most of the people who are calling for BP's neck on the block are those who only have the lifestyle they have because of oil companies. That car, that AC when its hot, that heating when its cold, that wireless internet connection, that f*cking plastic laptop that you tap away on at a website called I-Am-F*cking-Bored.

You enjoy your 21st century lifestyle but you rant and roar when things go wrong. Supply and demand, people. Supply and demand.

A cop out excuse.look up 'shells' unethical actions in Nigeria.look up Kenule "Ken" Beeson Saro Wiwa, theyre record in third world countries is abismal, theyve destroyed local communities (Ogoniland, in the Niger Delta)...so your piss poor excuse for these companies doesnt stack up,of course we rely on oil, thats not the issue.Imagine in happened in Britian on your

Reason why they have so many is because the locals keep breaking the pipes and stealing the sodding oil.

Hmm....Nigeria about 350 miles of coastline. USA Gulf Coast around 1400 miles and soon the Atlantic side as well. Gee WTF difference does it make. It's still lethal to both countries anyway. Who cares whose was bigger. it sucks ass for anyone including any country when this poo happens. What a dip poo report.

On accountability and culture, there was a recent international study on Obesity and fatness, and how your social network affects your body weight. The basic premise was that, you are fat, your friends are more likely to be fat, and vice versa. This is real, and not a joke. Linky, the good stuff is from 2:00 to 7:00, sorry if that 5 mins is too long for the TL;DR crew

Anyways, point is that the American press ran "Overweight? Blame your fat friends!" wheras the European press went with "Are your friends gaining weight? Perhaps YOU are to blame."

just gonna throw this out there, i dont necissarily know how corrupt/not corrupt the nigerian government is, however this article simply states a good point that if it doesn't affect or concern USA, no one hears about it. This i find is a HUGE problem. Example proving my point: 9/11 was broadcasted for YEAAARRRS yet how much do we hear about tragedies in other counties that happen on a daily basis that kill the same amount if not more people? I am not anti-american, but COME ON would they quit being so full of themselves and maybe use their advanced media on important WORLD issues! (not talking about just this oil spill because yes it affects other countries too but just in general.) I think if americans actually got their head out of their @sses and quit being so full of themselves they would be liked by other countries and could help a great deal. ...end of rant. Begin bashing.

gee! let's all blame the big-bad oil companies and not the corrupt government of Nigeria. Don't forget to blame Obama too and maybe you can work Hillary Clinton in there somewhere!

Cause it can't be the fault of the gangsters running that country
