Thursday, June 10, 2010 4:27:14 PM "Just goes to show you that rednecks aren't as ignorant as people would like to think. God I love the south - this is going on my facebook. " Same here. Rednecks are ignorant. However, ignorance isn't stupidity; the two are entirely different things. So yes, rednecks ARE ignorant, but they're not all stupid. This is a smart idea using material and experience they've probably personally had. Most people in cities are ignorant of farming techniques, but you don't assume they're stupid. |

Thursday, June 10, 2010 4:09:56 PM There are plenty of ways to clean up the BP spill. Kevin costner has a machine that separates oil and sea water. The hay idea, oil tankers, its just BP still wants to cap the well so they can try again later. The reason more isnt being done is greed, plain and simple. |

Thursday, June 10, 2010 4:06:59 PM The thing is, here in Kentucky most farmers don't harvest the hay because the is an extreme over abundance of it. My in-laws for example let over 150 round bales go to waste last year because there was literally no demand for it. 10 bucks a round bale.
Like this size bale.. 150 of them.. they were worth only about 8 bucks a bale last year. Not worth harvesting. Plus, I agree.. it isn't like it couldn't be used in refitted pulp burning coal power plants. It would be a win-win for our economy - especially if we burn the hay for energy. |

In Canada that may have been a lot of hay, but we produce a sh|t load of hay here. That "full box of hay" is less than I rake out of my yard when I mow. |

Thursday, June 10, 2010 3:17:04 PM Shoot, this has been out there for over a month, but at the rate BP is going, I'm sure that will be their "next" backup plan once they get done with the Waterworld spinny things they bought from Kostner. |

Thursday, June 10, 2010 2:27:07 PM I agree with Handsompod. The size of the oil spill is near the size of Jamaica. We wouldn't have enough hay to cover it all. However, i also agree with Igmo in that even if we can get some of it up it's a good idea. Plus, if the government buys the straw from the farmers, there is a huge way to produce jobs and revenue to the working class. |

Thursday, June 10, 2010 1:37:14 PM I think they should at least try it. It could work. Besides, even if the method doesn't clean ALL of the oil, a small percentage of it makes a big difference. |

Thursday, June 10, 2010 1:17:55 PM Could we actually grow enough hay to soak up 12000 barrels a day of oil? It's a great idea in principle but the logistics would be a nightmare. |
