"Why didn't the umpire check the instant replay?"
It has been about 30 years since I actually tried to watch baseball but, if I remember, instant-replay did not become part of the rules of baseball like in American football. Instead, one official can consult another.
"Why wasn't there a riot after this play?"
Well, if that was Detroit, it's because we have more interesting things to riot about.
- Police beat a guy to death for stealing their money = march down and attack the police station.
- Bad baseball call = "Gee, that was disappointing. Oh, well. Let's get som-um' t' eat."
It's not like it's basketball or anthing...

Here's a link that's working for now.
Somebody's gotta speak up for that poor son-of-a-bitch umpire. That was a lot tougher call to make on the field than it was on TV. Umpires usually make first base calls by watching the bag and listening for the ball to hit the first baseman's glove. That was an easy toss that obviously couldn't have made much of a sound.
Yeah, he should have gotten it right, and if he wasn't sure, he should have consulted the second base and plate umpires, but the call was definitely tougher than it looked from the camera. |

Lol, I think baseball is boring, especially perfect games, which this game was supposed to be. It's just like watching 2 guys play catch for 9 innings |

Actually I think the worst baseball call ever is... "Play ball!"
Seriously, you people find this 'sport' exciting? A bunch of fat men standing around spitting while one throws a ball at another? Its almost as bad as cricket! |

In England, ladies and children play a game with no finesse called rounders. It simply consists of the "pitcher" throwing the ball and the "batter" trying to hit it really hard. Is baseball the same as that? |

The fact that this happened in the very last out makes me suspicious. The Ump (not referee) didn't want this to be a no hitter and saw a chance to rob this guy and consciously or unconsciously stretched what he thought was a closer call than it was to do so. It wasn't so close, people are reacting badly and he's back peddling. I wouldn't have been as classy as the pitcher, though. I know my flaws. |

Bud Selig, Commissioner of the MLB, Announced he will NOT reverse the call. What an ass. Gallaraga was clearly robbed and Selig won't even consider making amends. |

Clear cut case of why baseball needs review. Games already last forever. They cant act like its in the interest of time. Dont know why they are so far behind every other sport. |

NO! Instant replays will kill the game and And add an extra 3 hours into each game.. all i think is that these umpires should get extra training to stop being idiots , i was watching this game ... i felt heart broken for gallaraga but instant replays = big no no , this aint football -_- |
