Thursday, June 03, 2010 11:33:12 PM I think that Christians used to be total jerks (not an opinion, look at the Crusades and the Inquisitions), but now most of them are not that crazy. Judging from that, I think it's likely that soon (give it a hundred-ish years), the vast majority of Muslims will be more calm and peaceful too. Of course, right now the majority of them already ARE, but the extremists within their religion have no way to politically and diplomatically vent their anger. Thus, it gets channeled into ways they can vent their anger, i.e. terrorism. But once more of the Middle East has stable governments, more of the Islamic extremists will be able to get their opinions stated on polls and votes instead of bombs and bullets, just like most insane Christian groups in the United States do. Really, Muslims and Christians probably have the same percentage of crazy people, but Christians can voice their opinion more easily. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 11:06:41 PM @davymid I don't mean to be patronizing- seriously. Columbine was committed by atheists, and they shot a girl after asking her if she believed in god. Tavis Smiley was TOTALLY wrong to mention that. These people are blowing up abortion clinics and killing jews and shooting people in the name of God, because they feel that it is their responsibility as dictated by God. Are they true Christians? Yes. Do they follow the bible word for word? No. Their religious status can't be discredited because it's convenient. Muslims feel the SAME way about the Muslims who committed the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the other limited attacks in our country, but SO many Christians feel like it is their power to judge. It might not be TRUE, by the book Christianity, but it was still what motivated them to do these things. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 10:32:41 PM Yeah I agree with daymid, there are loads of incidents, like Columbine, where people were murdered, but it probably wasn't in the name of God. You also have to take into account, that some parents make thier children Christian from a young age so the child has no say. By the time they grow up they could be a twisted little F**k that is still techinically "Christian" although they could give a rats ass about religion |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 8:26:34 PM Sorry for double post, but I have to disagree with the fella here: sure, maybe more acts of terrorism have been committed by "Christians" (or at least, they would appear as Christians on a census), but they didn't commit their acts of terrorism in the name of Christianity. It simply wasn't their driving factor. The same cannot be said for fundamentalist Islamic terrorists. I doubt very much that the Columbine attackers waded into the school crying "Praise be to God"... I'll lay money down that the 9-11 bombers were sky-mumbling verses from the koran all the way into impact with the WTC. And this is coming from a staunch atheist, even anti-theist (as unpopular as that position is, growing up in Northern Ireland in the 70s-90s tends to have that effect). |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 8:20:39 PM vv "IRA blew up your building but rung you to tell you they were going to do it." The IRA? Don't make me laugh. They more often than not rung in false bomb warnings in a focussed effort to deliberately send civilians and security personnel to their death due to secondary planted devices. Take it from a guy who grew up in Belfast. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 5:58:07 PM @jondegi That accounts for act's of terrorism succeeded( actually committed ) and not attempted. It also doesn't include whether people were attacked or not i.e IRA blew up your building but rung you to tell you they were going to do it. 9/11 they didn't ring ahead to the towers to say they were coming. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 5:31:21 PM @5cats There were three clinics that still offered the service of late term abortions. George Tiller ran one of these. Perhaps some of those 400 were done outside of these clinics, but as far as I know, if you need one of these procedures performed, you have to go to one of those clinics. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 5:15:37 PM one of the last few doctors who performed late term abortions (for health reasons only.) You delude yourself. A) there's about 400 of these "partial induction abortions" in the USA every year. B) here in Canada there is NO LAW covering abortion of any form, except that the government pays for it. Yeah Zepher! Charlie is a good fellow, best interviewer on TV these days. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 4:51:38 PM Perhaps he is an idiot for saying "Columbine," but if you consider his point, he is correct. He wasn't saying that there are more crimes committed by christians, but that he can find more examples of Christians killing in the name of Christ in modern America than you can find for Muslims doing the same. They committed ONE act, on ONE day INSIDE of our borders. You guys are forgetting about the Ku Klux Klan, who are known as a racist group, but are in fact a religious one. You are forgetting about the Army of God, who bombed abortion clinics and Eric Rudolph, who bombed the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. You have forgotten Scott Roeder, who killed one of the last few doctors who performed late term abortions (for health reasons only.) And seriously, did you forget about the Hutaree? You know, the cult that was planning on a massacre of police officers? Also if you read the article that jondegi posted, consider that most Latinos are christian. |

Thursday, June 03, 2010 4:36:03 PM @citizen_kane only anti-Christian links get traffic, these anti-idiot links are pretty quiet... @jondigi Nice link, but there's NO Christians listed there (outside the 16% possibly) Leftists and Latinos are responsible for the HUGE majority of terrorism in the USA? And people are p*ssing on Arizon for trying to close the border (to ILLEGALS!). Also, I think if you factor in the number of people killed, the Muslims EASILY take the lead, eh? @needle_nny Exactly! Which makes Tavis... an idiot! |
