I thought ritual suicide (seppuku I think it's called) was a samurai thing not a ninja... ninjas are stealth assassins so if they fail they're most likely KIA...
Ninjas mostly did spying, but that doesn't attract the attention that assassination does. If it's done very well, it doesn't attract any attention because nobody knows you were there, even afterwards.
Seppuku was a samurai thing, but it's debateable just how much samurai actually lived by the code of honour. Much like the code of honour of British and European knights. Bushido, chivalry...not necessarily how they all actually lived. |
