Tuesday, June 01, 2010 4:06:28 PM Why is dog fashion 30c extra? Come on! Because it's harmless and they could charge extra and customers would pay it. Business is business. If it's a common enough extra, may as well put it in the price list. If not, charge extra on a per-person basis. You want the prostitute to be wearing a bowler hat and a monocle? You want her to wear a crown and pretend to be a queen? No problem as long as you pay extra. In that time and place, doggy style would probably have been seen as a bit kinky. So it costs a bit extra. |

Monday, May 31, 2010 7:09:43 PM There is nothing new under the sun. I love to bring up things like this when people start talking about how "decadent" and "corrupt" modern society is. The "good ol' days" were pretty down 'n' dirty too, people! |

Monday, May 31, 2010 4:31:39 PM Another thought...if it's old enough, 'cash' would refer to precious metal in coin form. Bank notes, i.e. what we think of as cash today, were not considered cash in the past. They have no intrinsic value. They were merely a voucher that can be exchanged for cash. They're essentially a widespread centrally organised barter system. Formally, they are referred to as promissary notes, i.e. people promise to exchange them for cash. UK bank notes are still clearly labelled as such. Look at one and you'll see the promise clearly stated on it: "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of X pounds", where X is the value of the note. |

Monday, May 31, 2010 3:21:29 PM Sonsglow: How old do you think this advert is purporting to be? There has been a credit system for a very long time. No-one other than you is claiming that electronic banking is necessary for credit. There was also an established barter system in many parts of America. Most of the crude words for bodily parts and functions in English go back to old English, which is millenia old. The earliest written references to it are, unsurprisingly, Roman (from the 1st century BC, maybe a little earlier) but it was of course around before that. Most of the crude words for bodily parts and functions can be reliably traced back at least as far back as we have large amounts of extant original writing for, i.e. ~1200-1300. No doubt they existed before then, it's just that written records prior to that are quite uncommon nowadays. |

Monday, May 31, 2010 1:23:41 PM sons, most of those "modern" terms are older than most of the alternatives we use today. |

Monday, May 31, 2010 10:46:37 AM @peloos12 - It's called having an education and enlightenment that transcends the bounds of the internet. The language does not add up. Also - "no discount for cash" - HOW in an "old-timey sex brothel" would you *not* pay with cash? Or did they have an electronic banking system back then that history is unaware of? Not to mention the myriad modern terms for sex acts and genitals used in this "menu" - funny? to some people, I guess. Definitely not real though. |
