Countless studies have shown that providing condoms does not make kids who weren't having sex have sex. Instead, it just makes those that already have sex, do it in a safer way.

I agree with xtreme_dude. There's something really wrong with your child if he/she is having sex at 12 years old, and probably something wrong with you, the parent, as well. Nothing a few good swats on the a$$ can't fix though. |

Good idea. When I was in 6th grade I had a friend who was pregnant. She had 5 kids before she was 18 because she wasn't educated about protection

Actually...America has quite a bit of sex-ed. I was in one in 5th grade, and again in 9th grade. Thankfully they didn't act ignorant and actually taught us how to use things like condoms and what STD's were out there. And honestly, I am glad for that class. It taught me it IS ok to have sex (Which it is since its natural) but at the same time it taught me how to not be a dumb ass and protect myself. Educating and providing the resources to stay safe are key. Not trying to tell kids "No, sex is bad don't ever ever do it. Don't even think about it." That isn't going to get you anywhere. |

han5nah has a more then valid point.
And in all honesty, everything your trying to get them to stop seems to be minimaly effective. If this lowers STD and pregnancy rates, its a good thing, go for it.
Of course, you can still use education in conjunction. You'd want to be, but you know, in case education fails, lets hope they use one of these.
It wasn't all that uncommon years ago (actually the norm) to have kids at a young age... Thats just the way our biological urges go. You can try to stop them doing the act, which probably wont work, or you can help them protect themselves. |

necrobitch: Some kids blossom earlier than others and some act on it. Can blame the media for milking the sex aspect for advertising, but even so some kids just do it because they know it feels good and it makes them feel 'grown up'.
Frankly I'd rather they do this. It's better than having a high school have to fund a daycare for their students (the second high school I attended had one) or go through all those adoption things to give the kid away. I mean it's not really cool that 10 year olds are boinking, but at least with specially made condoms we can try to lessen teen pregnancies. |

I totally agree. I wasn't thinking about sex when I was 12 but when I was babysitting 3 kids (7, 9, and 12) the 12 year old was telling me about how he had sex. Some kids are thinking about it and doing it at really young ages and it's better to be safe than sorry |

While it's disturbing to me that kids are having sex at such a young age, telling them not to will not make them stop. Thus, we should do everything possible to make sure that they are at least safe.
This includes giving them access to contraception, and very thorough sex education. |
