Saturday, May 29, 2010 11:18:15 AM Modern music meets good old-fashioned misogyny. That's pretty awesome that he said battalions of women though. Pretty accurate for NYC. |

Friday, May 28, 2010 9:12:24 AM "there's a bit where he talks about how there are battalions of women on the streets. He actually says battalions." ...meaning that those battalions of women should take care of their children and homes, instead of working :) |

Friday, May 28, 2010 3:41:56 AM Serbian here! :) So, this guy, Ekrem Jevric, selfproclaimed "The Star of USA and Canada", is gypsy gastarbeiter (immigrant worker) in New York. I think he's from Serbia, but that doesn't matter... Reason for it's popularity is: a) in Serbian, he's funny b) his rhythm ignoring skills are pretty amazing c) the song is great platform for stereotypical jokes about gypsies and their attitude towards work d) for those who enjoy unintended epic irony, text is full of little wins - it is almost a ballad about working your ass off all day long, leaving no time to have fun. It's about a slacker who has arrived in New York, where he "lives and works, and only works". Think of "Hard Days Night", gypsy style. So, it's not just a guy who looks & sings funny, it is much more that that... for people who speak the language :) |

Thursday, May 27, 2010 11:25:35 PM PS everyone: Bosnian = Serbian = Croatian in language, pretty much. Some differences but not enough to make us not understandable between each other. |
