How many potatoes do Americans eat every day? We're not running out of potatoes. Growing more trees is actually healthy for the environment. By not replanting trees and letting them die out, we are actually causing more harm. |

The original polystyrene foam was made from the Turkish sweetgrass tree. However, in modern times, it is made entirely from petroleum. See Wikipedia article:
Polystyrene was discovered in 1839 by Eduard Simon,[1] an apothecary in Berlin. From storax, the resin of the Turkish sweetgum tree (Liquidambar orientalis), he distilled an oily substance, a monomer which he named styrol. Several days later, Simon found that the styrol had thickened, presumably from oxidation, into a jelly he dubbed styrol oxide ("Styroloxyd").
