Just about every job in the civilian world has a military equivalent that you can learn. Learning to operate a tank may not transfer over, but being a medic or logistical expert does. Ex-Military helo pilots are in incredible demand and can make incredible money, as are linguists. The military also teaches men and women a certain sense of discipline and organization that can be used to further any life goal. If you take any job in the military and add the cost of your training to your salary (which still doesn't include base housing and shopping privileges) people in the military make a lot of money.

And to anyone who thinks soldiering is a low profession; remember that it has been soldiers throughout the history of the entire world, dying in the worst of conditions, living without their wives/husbands, living without their infants knowing their faces, who have made your disrespect possible.

It's nice to see that I wasn't the only person who actually supported our troops. Seems that after I commented everyone hopped on board the "nationalism train."

"I think it is great this solider used a little humor to make this Iraqi fellow feel a little more at ease while they conducted the search of his vehicle."

I think it's funny the video lists his impression as an impression of Will Ferrell doing and impression of Harry Carey... I get that it was from SNL and I loved that skit, but that's actually how HC talked so he's just doing an impression of HC, not WF.

...they never said they were pork ribs.

Order barbecued spare ribs in any restaurant in the US, and they will bring you pork. Beef ribs are usually boiled and served with noodles; I have never seen barbecued beef ribs in a restaurant.

Easiest way to get a job out of the military is to go in as an MP. There's always a cop job open somewhere in the US.

@Lordpoee: No, being a soldier is not really like being a slave, more than anything because you volunteer. Hell, calling a soldier a slave would be almost as ridiculous as calling a soldier a civil servant.

@Nettech: I did not mean to suggest there are not jobs available to servicemen, but I would argue that the majority of ratings are military specific and it is harder for someone who trained for a specific job in the military than it would be for someone who went to college and took courses that were specific to a particular civilian job.

I don't think this is a very good example of the safety of Iraq today since this video was taken MORE THAN 3 FREAKIN' YEARS AGO!!!

being an ex solider will put a crap ton of high paying job offers on the table, im not sure where you gathered your information. if we are both assuming here than the problem was incited by the economy and no one hiring anyone of any background because they couldn't afford it, not because they were soilders

i feel like they get a general gist of what English speaking countries are saying to them. they at least understand facial expressions and non violent gestures so i think when the man started laughing and had a smile on his face the entire time, they got that this was un-threatening and routine.
so i agree with lordpoee, its nice that they dont let things ruin everyones day...they had fun and got on with it

Asking a Muslim if he'd like some spare ribs and a beer? Iraq must be a pretty cool place; you couldn't get away with that in Detroit or London.

@Brassbull I am an ex-soldier of the US Army. It is nothing like slavery! You are given a generous paycheck, more than adequate meals and housing. many US Army Regulars live in Dormitories rather than Barracks whenever possible, you are given R&R when it is safe and feasible. When you are injured of sick you are provided with outstanding medical service. I had some TOUGH days drenched in blood, sweat and tears in the army but I never felt like a slave.

All the comments on here talking down about soldiers show the true problem with liberal scum. In every society since the dawn of man, the soldier has been looked at as honorable and respect worthy. The soldiers in the Middle East, hell the soldiers across the world, are risking their lives to protect your freedom. I'm not speaking about liberals in general because I know a large majority does not think this way, but instead I am speaking of the minority of the "Look at me and my non-viloent attitudes towards life" liberals.
