There's another detail that makes the steam engine thing stand out more - there was a railway existing at the same time. It was well known when Hero invented his steam engine. But who would think about something as silly as using an amusing toy to move wagons along tracks?

@Fatninja - Not so much the song, the legends performing the tribute - that was Harrison's induction to the hall of fame and there are gods on that stage.

If the steam engine took off back then we'd probably be living in a poo hole right now; assuming we'd be alive at all.

I knew about #3 because all of my History GCSE this year has been about medicine through time. Pare actually did a lot more than just reviving an old method. Cauterising a gunshot wound was done not just used to stop bleeding but because it was thought that gunshot was poisonous. He ran out of pitch and made a lotion from egg yolks and stuff to use instead. Tying arteries was also used after amputations using his method as a skin flap was folded over, rather than to fix bleeding from cuts.

"Most of things weren't "forgotten" at all. I guess the poster didn't know that every ship in the United States Navy, whether Diesel or Nuclear, is propelled by steam. Dumb article."

-revdrdark

Are you intentionally trolling, or are you actually retarded? The part about steam engines being forgotten refers to the old Greek engines being forgotten until someone rediscovered the principles in the 18th century.

revdrdark: You obviously didn't read the article thoroughly. The steam engine was invented by Heron of Alexandria Waaaaay back in 100 AD, It's just that it was never seriously considered as a way to power things, It was left forgotten.

The article is about important things and technology that had been forgotten or overlooked AND then re-discovered. Get it ?
