Thursday, April 22, 2010 6:17:13 PM Meh. I wash/cook food when I drop it. Not bread: If I drop it, I toast it, then eat it. |

Thursday, April 22, 2010 12:33:29 PM So if somebody saw you drop the food, all the speculations to the right are null? That's just wrong. |

Thursday, April 22, 2010 6:22:55 AM I'll play Devil's advocate: Food poisoning is a major health issue. Many ill, some die. Even with uncompromised immune systems. The human immune system is pretty good, but it's nowhere near that of, for example, a dog. There is evidence for and against the hygiene hypothesis. There is also evidence for a genetic component in allergy. Environmental can't be ruled out either - the modern world is quite diiferent to that of even 50 years ago. Even if you think the hygiene hypothesis is correct, you should know that it doesn't apply to adults. So it has no bearing on whether or not you should eat food that's been on the floor. |

Thursday, April 22, 2010 5:11:25 AM I think we can all agree that it's acceptable to eat Skittles off the ground regardless of floor condition. Just blow on it/wipe off any liquid and you're good! ;) |

Thursday, April 22, 2010 2:26:21 AM Davy: Nowadays every time a kid touches a surface in a public space they're practically decontaminated with disinfectant wipes by overzealous parents. Every excuse to add a new law nowadays includes "Think of the kids!". We've virtually wrapped our kids in bubble wrap, And expect they'll never get a bruise, cut, or abrasion. It's turning them into spoiled, Jello spined, Weak willed, drop out quitters that suck off their parents teet till they are in their thirties. I understand the parental instinct to protect their kids, But kids need to be free to explore the boundaries of their abilities. Not smothered to death and treated like a trophy on a shelf. |

Thursday, April 22, 2010 1:07:47 AM If it doesn't have anything like lint or noticeable dirt stuck to it, and I saw it drop, I'm eating it.... WITH the exception of my workplace floor. Because I know exactly what's going on in there. I don't care if I just saw that carpet steam-cleaned. DX (FYI, I work at a strip club as a waitress.) |

Thursday, April 22, 2010 12:39:48 AM I'm with Davy! Watch the adverts one day- the amount of stuff we are coerced into buying to keep our homes 'hygenic' and smelling good ( ie of chemicals) by feeding our paranoia about infection. This is a billion pound industry that has been created. |
