only the female plants produce THC in any considerable amount. weed farmer (thc producing farms) plant the female crop with good space between and frequently trim them to produce a bushier plant with more growing tips (more buds) where a hemp farm uses mainly male plant planted in tight spaces, so the plants grow tall and thick competing for light

Using it in, say, chocolate cake mix, is a lot healthier than smoking it

The kind of Marajuana plants that you grow for agricultural reasons is not the same kind you can get high from. For some reason the government lumps the two kinds together... And NO I don't smoke pot. I just read.

Harleq: "Words cannot express how retarded you are."

Luckily they CAN express how retarded YOU are:

CDC shows heroin deaths per year at ~2000. Cocaine, ~6000.

Want to guess how many alcohol related deaths? Or tobacco? Go look it up, brainiac.

Out of all the studies I've come across on marijuana smoking, they've all fallen into 1 of 2 categories.

1. Marijuana smoke contains carcinogens (known cancer causing agents)

-or-

2. Smoking marijuana does not increase the likelihood of cancer (might even slightly lower the risk of cancer though not in a statistically significant amount.)

At first those two results seem contradictory but I don't believe this is the case. While there is not denying that marijuana smoke does have cancer causing agents, it seems that the cancer fighting ability of THC (or other compounds in the smoke) completely counteract the carcinogens.

The reason it should be legalized is that doing so will take money out of the hands of gangs and give it to the government and people. Cut gangs off from a huge cash crop and bam, they lose some of their power. Prohibition saw gangs become the most powerful they had ever been in the history of America because they made so much money selling alchohol, and every time something in demand has been legalized gangs have lost some of their power.

And to the people that claim cannabis causes cancer, two things: First cannabis doesn't cause cancer, smoking does. Second you don't have to smoke cannabis, you can eat it.

Amidst all this arguing over marijuana legalization, let's not forget the real reason for the season. . . the Fuhrer's birthday is today. Happy birthday Hitler!

been watching Cannabis: Britain's Secret Farms on iplayer (here for any British IAB members) and when they were doing a bit about police helicopters and what they look for on their thermal cameras and whatnot for suspicion of cannabis growing..... it kind of all boils down to heat loss and condensation-y windows.

my house loses A LOT of heat through the windows and roof in winter cos it's got crappy insulation, broken double glazing and I like to be warm in winter otherwise i get really cranky.

could this be why we get the copperchopper hovering over our block every three or so days from about nov to march?! omg do they think i'm growing weed?!
all i have indoors are aloe veras and they're not illegal lol!

I challenge you to show one independent (non-government funded) report or study that shows that marijuana usage causes cancer.

Since most all studies are in one way or another connected to the government either through grants or through universities funded by the government that might be hard to do. Even If She, Or I, Did you may then claim it was paid for by an Anti-pot source, Thus rendering it's conclusions null and void in your mind.

patticakes,

I challenge you to show one independent (non-government funded) report or study that shows that marijuana usage causes cancer.

You show your own propaganda induced ignorance on your last point: Bob Marley did NOT die from cancer induced from smoking weed. He died from acral lentiginous melanoma, a form of malignant melanoma, in a wound reportedly picked up in a friendly football match which metastasized and spread to his lungs and brain.

George Harrison did die of lung cancer that had metastasized to his brain but he had been fighting cancer off and on for the last part of his life. He, himself, believed it was linked to his heavy tobacco smoking in the 60's.

Correlation does not prove causality.

"Oh, and I didn't see mentioned that smoking the stuff is REALLY bad for your lungs, as in CANCER"

Correct: YOUR lungs. As in, nobody else's business. Your lungs, your business, and if you want to give them cancer and aren't exposing others to the second hand smoke, why should I stop you?

NIce propaganda piece—extolling the virtues of the industrial uses of cannabis, while not fooling anyone about the real message behind all this, which is making a virtue out of the use of cannabis to intoxicate. And, oh yeah, the Jamaicans have contributed SO much to culture . . . . Why, they deserve to be as respected as the Greeks, right? NOT. Oh, and I didn't see mentioned that smoking the stuff is REALLY bad for your lungs, as in CANCER (see what killed Bob Marley and George Harrison).

Hemp is no 'miracle plant', We have many fibers both synthetic and natural stronger than hemp. I've heard claims that hemp seeds, oil, creams, etc.. as a cure all for everything. That is nothing more than snake oil salesmanship folx. It's all pro-legalization propaganda cooked up by the 'new age' movement.

Of course it's no miracle plant. Simply a highly useful plant. It grows very quickly with little resources, causes almost no environmental damage, and has a multitude of uses.

To use a basic example, hemp vs cotton for clothing. Hemp can produce upwards of 4 times the usable fiber of cotton on the same amount of land, while using less water and no pesticides. The clothing has better insulating ability, better water resistance, and is resistant to mold.

The reason hemp could be used as our fuel supply is because it grows so quick and has so little agricultural damage to the earth it grows on that if we used all the space we use for tree farming for hemp growning we would easily be able to sustain our energy needs.

I'm totally for legalizing pot. However, hemp may be "environmentally friendly" but it could never be sustainably used as a fuel source for the whole world. For this to happen it would be competing with food crops for usable agriculture land. However, biomass from other production processes using hemp could be used as PART of the total biomass needed for sustainable energy production.
Just saying...

Hemp is different from marijuanna. And yes, it can do all of those things.

i don't smoke anymore, but I still believe that its criminalization is an absolute travesty. America is currently struggling with our largest national debt ever, and making budgetary cuts everywhere. The legalization and taxation of marijuana would bring in millions of dollars annually, and could be applied to areas such as our fledgling public educational system. Just a thought.
