Monday, April 19, 2010 3:45:55 AM it is actually "et al." which means "and others". It is latin and while "et" may stand for "and" in this particular saying, it is not recognized in the latin language as a single word. NOW don't ask me how my american ass knew that, i probably heard it in the background somewhere while i was doing bong hits. This happens to me all the time, it kinda freaks me out a little. Maybe I was a genius in my past life lol |

Sunday, April 18, 2010 1:41:25 AM "Why do Americans write the & sign wrong? It's "et" from Latin so there has to be a t after the e they write" Thou protesteth of the natural current? For that matter, why the eff do YOU say "and" rather than "und?" A hundred years from now, people will be walking out of a business deal, shaking hands and saying to each other "GG" not knowing why, just like you probably don't know what "O.K." actually means without looking it up (O.K. and Okay have two different etymologies but contextually mean the same thing.) What colour are your tyres? |

Saturday, April 17, 2010 3:55:17 PM Why do Americans write the & sign wrong? It's "et" from Latin so there has to be a t after the e they write Because the person who wrote the sign is lazy! Isn't that obvious? |

Saturday, April 17, 2010 7:11:48 AM @Lionhart2 I'm sorry, but Luk does have a point. The powers-that-be recently rounded up a group of vicious folk planning some major terroristic activity because of the "e" vs "et" controversy. As a matter of fact, I would argue that every "bad" thing that's happened to us Americans is because of our staunch refusal to conform to the most basic things (read up on the infamous case of Stu vs Pid, 1933: which is correct "color" or "colour" and all other similar spellings). So please, Lion, be kind. He's just looking out for the rest of us. Imagine if we didn't have him here and we could never partake of this wonderful conversation. |

Friday, April 16, 2010 11:06:45 PM @Luk Yep, pretty shocking stuff isn't it; I believe the very thing you mention was the cause of the Revolutionary War AND a major reason for dropping the bomb on Japan in WW2. Certainly, Al Quada listed the '&' (ampersand) symbol as one of the three main reasons for 9/11, in their published manifesto on 9/11, "The Evil American Ampersand Obsession". It's just a damn good thing there are people like you out there, caring and worrying about this sort of thing on behalf of all of us. |

Friday, April 16, 2010 10:46:12 PM There's a story of a guy who tried to get rid of a refrigerator this way. He put it in his front yard with a "FREE" sign on it, and it sat there for a week. Then he put a "FOR SALE $100" sign on it; it was stolen that night. |

Friday, April 16, 2010 10:28:31 PM I don't see how a machine like this is supposed to be better than a jog outside, unless you live in muggerville. |

Friday, April 16, 2010 7:53:50 PM No, the official motto of the United States is "We just had to get the hell out of Europe." |

Friday, April 16, 2010 4:09:26 PM These items end up in storage. We auction loads of them. Take your vehicle off the road for a year, you'll get some exercise... |

Friday, April 16, 2010 3:21:58 PM I wonder how much of that type of exercise equipment is bought, sold, bought, sold - without ever being used more than twice. |

Friday, April 16, 2010 2:56:37 PM I'd take it, and then put it out in my own yard with the same sign. Just to see where it might end up a few weeks later. Like my neighbor's yard. |
