Tuesday, April 13, 2010 6:57:05 PM I once gave a hobo a liquor store gift card and told him it had $5 on it...but it only actually had $0.25. His eye's lit up like it was christmas lol. At least he doesn't ask me for money anymore. |

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 3:24:20 PM "but they make up less then 10% of the homeless." Oh, did you take a survey? You blame others for making generalizations when you make not only make them yourself, you make up bs statistics to go along with them. Congratulations, you win at the internet. |

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 3:09:16 PM """ PsychGeek: you do realize that a lot of homeless people are in that situation BECAUSE of these factors--many had good lives before they became homeless, but because of bad habits they're out on the streets. """ It's not because of bad habits they're on the streets. They're on the streets because they can't afford a house. Yeah, a few use what little income they can make on bad habits, but they make up less then 10% of the homeless.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 2:39:36 PM fealiks: so being homeless is an excuse for them to blow the kindness of others on beer/drugs? you do realize that a lot of homeless people are in that situation BECAUSE of these factors--many had good lives before they became homeless, but because of bad habits they're out on the streets. so what you're essentially saying is to look the other way when they shoot up or get drunk, because of their "lack of opportunity". maybe if they put the bottle down and looked for a job (and there ARE organizations out there which help them in that regard), they'd have more opportunities. We need to stop making excuses for them, and start looking for ways to reduce the numbers of homeless in our communities. |

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 2:25:01 PM People often look down on homeless people for spending change on beer and/or drugs, but they shouldn't. What else are they going to do with it? Save up and buy a slightly higher quality sandwich? In my opinion, they don't have the opportunity for any luxuries beyond beer or drugs, so let them be hedonistic. They've got nothing to lose. |

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 12:36:59 PM Honest bum is honest. Whenever I see a hobo flying a sign I always imagine it says beer because all hobos love beer. |
