It's not because of bad habits they're on the streets. They're on the streets because they can't afford a house. Yeah, a few use what little income they can make on bad habits, but they make up less then 10% of the homeless.

so what you're essentially saying is to look the other way when they shoot up or get drunk, because of their "lack of opportunity". maybe if they put the bottle down and looked for a job (and there ARE organizations out there which help them in that regard), they'd have more opportunities.
We need to stop making excuses for them, and start looking for ways to reduce the numbers of homeless in our communities. |

People often look down on homeless people for spending change on beer and/or drugs, but they shouldn't. What else are they going to do with it? Save up and buy a slightly higher quality sandwich? In my opinion, they don't have the opportunity for any luxuries beyond beer or drugs, so let them be hedonistic. They've got nothing to lose. |
