Friday, April 23, 2010 12:55:35 PM There is no way in in hell that a parking ticket in the U.S. would get dismissed, even under these circumstances. |

Saturday, April 10, 2010 12:07:12 PM I'm glad this man knew what he was doing, and that the law actually understood this time. |

Friday, April 09, 2010 8:22:51 AM The meters in my town are a massive $0.25 but the fine is $10. Since a lot of people don't carry coins with them they have to run into the store to get a quarter, run back out and pay. Of course, our meter maids are faster than that and will have a ticket printing out and quickly inform you that they've "already put your tag number in so the ticket is already in the system." |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 9:26:25 PM Johan, it happens. There are some jerks out there who will write a ticket every chance they get. We really don't know who was right in this case. But some parking officers are just idiots. So I totally believe it. |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 12:23:11 PM Can they send some of those cops here to Rio? Here people stop their cars right under the "no stop/no park" sign, turn on the emergency lights, and can be away for hours! And nothing happens! Park on the side walk? No problem! Motorcycle bypassing traffic by driving on the side walk? Get out of his way! And they ("they" - I definitely don't) want to host the Olympics and the World Cup (2016 and 2014)? Ha, ha, ha.... ha, ha, haaaa.... aaaa hhhh. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 11:51:40 AM I wonder how this person could have proven that he was in his right. I mean the car could have been parked there for some time and just when the parking officer writes out his ticket this guy quickly pays for a parking ticket to 'prove' that he was just buying the ticket after he had parked. Unless there was videofootage of the incident, there is never enough proof to know for sure. And say what you will about parking officers, i can't believe anyone would give a ticket that fast with the parking meter only eight steps away and someone standing there buying a ticket. |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 5:45:15 AM Actually, there is a general principal at work here worth knowing. When you send a letter to the council/parking office, obviously, its not worth the time or effort to find out what really happened on their part, even assuming that the parking attendant remembers YOUR car from thousands of others, which he/she won't. All the authority does when they get your letter is check the computer to make sure you haven't protested hundreds of previous ones, and if you're "clean", 99% of the time they'll just accept your letter and cancel it. |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:30:38 AM epiphany101: About the only traffic allowed in Manhattan (New York City) these days are taxis, buses, limos, and delivery trucks. Times Sq. Webcam take a look and see. |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:26:25 AM I've watched that show 'Parking Wars', Philadelphia is certainly NOT 'the city of brotherly love'. One time I got a letter in the mail saying I owed over $100 for an unpaid parking ticket, Written in Chicago, And I've never even driven to Chicago ! After 3 calls and mailing them 2 pieces of proof that I couldn't have been there on that date, They finally dropped the ticket. Where I used to live they quit using parking meters and started using city parking stickers. Every resident pays $10 a year to park in the city and you can park all day. Tourists and people from out of town have 1 or 2 hour limits, Depending on location. It's a lot friendlier system. |

Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:13:15 AM This is precisely why hubby takes the train into work...Melbourne parking officers = devil spawn. But at least soon no one will have to worry...they're intending to change parking in the CBD so no one can bring their cars into the inner city at all. Yay *rolls eyes* |

Monday, April 05, 2010 8:58:45 PM "once they start writing it they have to give it" Those kind of concepts are exactly what's wrong with law enforcement. |

Monday, April 05, 2010 8:52:08 PM > Alistair36 > where I come from we have parking meters and no parking police Well the obvious question you haven't answered is "Does anyone bother paying then?" |

Monday, April 05, 2010 8:12:42 PM I get the concept and logic behind ticketing people for parking infringements, but it's INSANE to charge often hundreds of dollars for a 25 cent parking spot. And just how does an $8 parking spot = $58 in ticketing fees? You'd have to park there for over 7 hours for that even to work out logically. |

Monday, April 05, 2010 7:33:04 PM He was parking on LaTrobe street which is right in the middle of the CBD. That's why it costs so much. Drive out 10 minutes from the city and it's free to park. |
