"I'm fairly certain all of that will fit in my pocket nowadays."

Yeah- and for a couple hundred bucks. A Droid or an iPhone (or pretty much any other smartphone) can do just about everything that the machines in this pic can do. Unless you want to get specific- A smartphone cannot play betamax tapes.

For the record, when I was at College, the entire State Govt system ran off a Vax PDP11/34 with 10MB storage, costing millions.

My first hard drive was a 20MB, which cost $3,500 - equivalent to about $20,000 now.

Right now, I have 22TB of storage on the desk beside the computer and drat-knows how much on the 3,500 CD's and DVD's I have. That 22TB cost about $3,500.

So - roughly, 1 million times the storage for the same cost.

I have a Demo CD in my folder which has no data on it, just a printed surface that explains what it is. Its a demo to show people what a CD actually looks like.

I also have a 10 MB (not gig) hard disk with 10 platters, each about 1/4 inch thick and 1.5 ft across, which weighs 14 kgs.

Looks like an old ad for Sony. Betamax camera, Betamax vcr, Sony tape player, Sony cd player, Sony walkman, etc... Ya, Gotta be a Sony ad from late eighties.
