Laughing immoderately and refusing to take this sort of thing seriously is indeed the best weapon. All animals simply loathe being laughed at.

At the end of the day - this vile poster child for religious bigotry is only spouting the poison that her parents have force-fed her over the years. Why do these so-called believers in a god (or whatever) feel the need to force their views on everyone else? I have absolutely no religious belief - but I don't go around standing on my country's flag hating on church-going folk.

:/ I think my main problem with this, would be the fact that this girl's parents have already brainwashed her and are having her do this :( Kinda upsets me...

I have seen a few things similar to this and I wonder how much understanding there is behind their protests. It is unpleasant and vicious- but almost meaningless in its breadth - like trying to hate a nation because of, say, fat people- or people who study Maths. I read this first off as USA = cigarette nation, which makes just as much sense. whilst I believe in free speech I do not believe in the right to try and teach children stupid and dangerous nonsense. Poor child is an object of ridicule and I doubt she has any idea why!

For example, if someone's religion states they must smoke constantly, it may be reasonable to allow them to do so in no smoking areas.

It may also be reasonable to make exceptions. (Fire hazards? Petrol Stations?)

The reason for this is not to encourage or endorse religion. This is to prevent discrimination which would effectively end access for those people to various services, and make it impossible for "Smokers" to exist in the country.

It is the same reason I am strongly against the "Under God" portion of the pledge, which as I stated earlier, was
added
with the expressed goal of discriminating against Atheists and making it clear they were not part of the nation.

Is it wrong to say "Under God"? No, not at all.
Was it wrong to use it in that way? Absolutely. It is against everything your forefathers stood for.

"Should religious speech have more protection than any other kind of speech - legal or not?"

Yes... but I think you worded the question slightly inaccurately for what you might mean.

"Should someone be able to say something they would normally not be allowed to say, simply because it is religious?"

No, they should not.

The reason the answers to these questions are different, is because one factors in possible discrimination.

It's the same reason Blacks should have more protections, but not more rights. Those protections are there to try to balance an inherent inequality, with the desired end effect being an overall fair system.

Obviously nobody gets it perfect, but this is not an argument against it.

"Should religious speech have more protection than any other kind of speech - legal or not?"

The biggest issue is that the following court case would be long and very painful. Various religious groups would attack the courts for persecuting a religion's right to speak its particular belief. Government tries to keep its hands out of the church's business. In the case of the WBC, they have NO church affiliation, so they have no higher power to police their actions. They've managed a way to have their own little happy society outside of the government's eye. If the government were to come out and say openly that they do NOT honor the WBC's rights as a church, they could then make them answer for their activities.

Question:

If 'community standards' is/was used as the test for what is considered pornographic (ie protected speech) why can that same standard not be applied to these people? They clearly offend community standards eveywhere they go...

Could it be because their speech is religious in nature? Because they throw the word God in their hateful speech?

Should religious speech have more protection than any other kind of speech - legal or not?

I've gone from really hating the WBC to feeling really sorry for them. Not the perpetrators... but the kids, most of whom have no idea what is going on...

I mean genuinely. They asked the kid what a fag was and he thought it might be something to do with Sweden.

Hell, when I used to pray in the house I did it away from my brothers and sisters so they wouldn't feel obliged to follow suit. (My brothers and sisters used to copy alot of what I did).

This is just sick.

Funny how a girl is hating on a nation that made her shirt, and the movie it's from, meaning that she has obviously watched AND likes it.

Also, her clothes just happen to make up said nation's colors.

I wanna bunch this girl in the uterus and dislocate her vagina with a round house kick....

Bash her skull.... knock her teeth in.... use her as a hammer.....

I wanna sew her lips to her ass... just stick her head in Rossie O'Donnells ass crack (shed probably like it, so maybe just into an electric socket instead....)

or we could just stab her.....

Well the good news, from watching the video TKD linked to, is that none of the kids are going to get married because they're serving God, not themselves.
So with any luck they'll all stick to that and this entire cult will die out within one generation.

If I ever found out they were coming to my town I'd have my band set up so we could do our own form of 'protest' and no one would be able to hear them. 2400 watts up your ass
