Tuesday, April 05, 2011 7:25:16 PM Granted, I'm a HUGE American mutt... my family dates back to John Smith, on of the first folks over here (and yes he scored Pocahantas too)... so years of familial sexual relations over hundreds of years here in this nation has made me total Martini, shaken not stirred. My last name is Dutch, First name another family name from great grandparents and so is my middle name (I'm uber proud of my full name so here goes: Marshall Rohling Van Stone--yes I need to publish cuz it's the best author name around. Anyway, I'm Dutch, English, French, Germanic, a tiny bit Cherokee (why my beard sucks and my body as no hair on it... I kinda dig that), a few other cultures I'm unaware of, but Irish is up there too. I'm a brunette, but my beard is orange-ish and lots of freckles. Talk about a melting pot of mutt-dome. And yet I STILL never act like this. Sure some green beers and car bombs, but I'm always crazy about SPD for some reason, no matter my kick ass blood line. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 9:44:01 PM Chicago is such an awesome city! The riverfront is gorgeous! (in an urban architectural sense as opposed to a naturalistic aesthetic) |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 6:04:37 PM Taylor stone: You forget about St Louis. Half the freaking city (and the entire Irish neighborhood) is barricaded for the drunken debauchery going on right now. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 5:55:58 PM @Madduck. Are you drating Kidding me? more than half of Americans are of Irish Heritage. Along with various other heritages...so why pick that one and exaggerate it way past people who are actually Irish, so far that it becomes a caricature? Saint Patrick was born in Britain, i.e. not Ireland. When he settled in Ireland, he became Irish. So you're celebrating his day by doing the opposite of what he did. Rather strange, really. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 4:47:56 PM I don;t know about the rest of the country, but we celebrate St Patrick's Day here because the cities were BUILT by Irish immigrants during the Industrial Revolution. Everything in most areas of Massachusetts has the blood, sweat, and tears of an Irishman embedded into its foundation... We celebrate it to honor our history. And ignore part of my previous post... That is the Chicago River, though it looks very much like an area of Boston. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 4:39:48 PM #1 - That dog is such a fkin LIGHTWEIGHT... And he wonders why we don't bring him to the pub with us... #4 - That would be Boston... True American home of the Irish... Actually, I wouldn't be shocked if just about all of these cane from Boston. We rock St Pats pretty hardcore here. It a week long party filled with drunkenness and debauchery, and if you say you remember it, you weren't really there. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 2:56:17 PM We celebrate St. Patrick's day, because we like green beer. As for people that claim it's because of their Irish heritage, I don't know. I am, in descending order of percentage, English, Native American, German, Polish, Russian, French and Scottish. Which means, that I am none of those things. I'm an American. I also like drinking holidays.

Thursday, March 17, 2011 2:29:14 PM T-R Wolf: It's just a reason for people to get drunk and celebrate. Although most of the people who get wild about it get drunk every weekend anyway, Saint Patty's day along with Cinco De Mayo and a few other minor holidays is an opportunity for people to get even more drunk than usual. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 1:32:26 PM Why are the Americans so insane about St Patrick's? Even the Irish don't celebrate it that much. Here in the UK it might spawn some special nights in pubs or whatever, but its nowhere near the scale it gets to in the US. |

Thursday, March 17, 2011 12:19:06 PM DracObi Or in other words "Americans who think they're Irish" as they're known here. The woman in davymids story is the perfect example of this. |
