Obviously a couple animals are more important than centuries of culture which NO ONE on this forum follows. Quit telling people how to live their lives.

Everyone who doesn't like bull fights has a great solution at hand : stay the hell away.
And a reminder , the only reason why there are still wild bulls , in Europe at least , is the bullfights.
And people who squirm at bullfights jost on hearsay and a couple of pictures should all be fully vegetarian for the sake of coeherence. If you'r worried about bulls being stabbed in a arena but eat industrial meat , your just a hypocrit

Thanks for making it clear to me that there is absolutely no reason at all to not be against bullfighting. :)

Man, WTF is this bullsht? We've got horses being run through a bonfire and it's labeled "badass", we've got semi-naked blood-splattered people protesting a horrific, barbaric animal torture "tradition" labeled as "sexy" but god forbid someone makes a comment here with a curse word in it.

It's fcking stupid and it needs to stop.

"7) RESPECT THIS DAMN TRADITION/SPORT/ART AND SIT THROUGH A DAMN CORRIDA TO UNDERSTAND IT AND STOP BEING IGNORANTS"

Ignorants is a great word, I like that.

You're also mistaken on most of your other points.

It's nearly unheard of for the bull to be spared. But the torturing is the problem more than the death anyways.

Before the real fight with the matador, a rider on horseback tires the bull out. He finishes by stabbing the bull at the base of the neck with a lance, to weaken it and force it to carry its head lower, make it safer.
Those flags are stabbed into its shoulders by three or four men in the next round.
After that is the show of matador versus (weakened, bleeding, injured) bull.

Oh, and it isn't so rare for the horse in the first round to be gored or mutilated.

Here in Spain, the locals are against the bullfights as often than not. The bullring here is unfinished, progress halted, covered in graffiti reading "Toros no!"

I saw a bullfight in Mexico once. Probably the most awesome thing I've ever seen.

Ive seen weirder. Sometimes im ashamed of fellow vegetarians and animal lovers.

im vegetarian, But i feel like i help the cause more by just not acting like a jackass.

Its better to just not preach all the time, or nobody will take you seriously. And youll look like a jackass. You attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

"The 2006 Gallup poll of Spanish opinions on bullfighting has shown that 72.10 % of Spaniards are not interested at all in bullfighting and just 7.40% are very interested; in Catalonia over 80% show no interest at all."

Apparently even most of Spain is no longer interested in this "tradition". Let's face it, it continues because it's an industry. Tons of money to be made.

"It is certain though that at the end of the show, the bull will die, yes, it is literally a show."

This is from a tourism site from Spain. Every article I have found about the fights has said that at the end of the fight the bull dies no matter what, and that the only judgment made is about the matadors worthiness of trophies.

It also says it a show, meaning entertainment, which they charge admission to see.

"you forget that mexico is also a north american country, and bull fights are a big thing there too. like i said before, they are not for entertainment. it is sorta like a ritual for the bull and the person facing the bull"

Fine the USA and Canada, both countries that you and I belong to. Not for entertainment? How do explain the spectator portion? A ritual for the bull? did you ask the bull?

Kary do you honestly not understand what you're saying? "The bull is treated great unless it dies from the stabbing it endures"

"Stabbing a bull is a sign of respect" - When I respect somebody, stabbing them is at least 3rd on the list of things I'd like to do to them out of respect.

Tradition just means something is super old. Traditionally, women could not vote or work outside the home, so we should respect that continued viewpoint? Just because something is old, doesn't mean it has any value.

I can't understand on any level how you see nothing whatsoever wrong with it. You grew up with it I guess, so it's just some mundane thing. But seriously, bulls don't care if you respect them, they have no concept of respect. So taking away all the "honour" the mighty bull is supposed to be feeling-- all you're left with is a guy in a ring stabbing a clueless animal (to death or not).

Why should anybody respect that?

You literally addressed almost nothing. Ignorance is a word people like to throw around when they don't like criticism. The only ignorant thing was my incorrect attribution of this to Italy.

1) Nothing you have said has compelled me to believe the bull is being treated well.

2) This is silly and has nothing to do with my second point so why even bother numbering it. It's a tradition in some countries to cut major portions of the female anatomy off, should that continue simply because it's tradition? Bad argument.

3. What does which bulls are picked have anything to do with the moral acceptability of the act, or to with whether or not the bull is frightened?

4. So what? The time of year or amount of occurrence has nothing to do with the morality, and again nothing with point 4.

5. See previous comments. IRRELEVANT.

6. This is rarely the case, and has nothing to do with the suffering of the bull, and again nothing to do with my point.

7. Why? Nothing compels me to.
