Wednesday, March 10, 2010 1:07:31 PM just a question...why was his niece posed so provocatively? its one thing to have pictures of them in a swimsuit in the pool, but to have her sprawled out on his car, stockings in a hotel looking room?also, he needs to learn to hide his files better. unless the guy searching the computer is super tech savvy, he wouldn't have found the pictures if the dude had compressed the files into other files and then hidden said files DEEP in the computer. then again, this dude was excited about the mud on the back of his truck... |

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 12:49:46 PM "It was probably made extremely clear that bringing porn into the country was illegal and unauthorized."Just to be clear, it was absolutely, 100% made clear quite a few times that no porn was allowed. They preached it constantly. As a military member who has been there, I think it is a little ass backwards that we are trusted to carry around M4's with 4 loaded magazines or more, defend ourselves, fight in battles and generally participate in highly dangerous combat operations... but hell rains down on us if we want to jerk off using visual images. Chesty Puller had it right... we need to be a little tougher so we don't get invaded, beaten and our enemies breed a hardier race with our women. |

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 11:29:01 AM Murder, rape and oppression are of course horrible, reprehensible things. They also have nothing to do with this.Rick S is spot on: It was probably made extremely clear that bringing porn into the country was illegal and unauthorized. Doesn't matter if everyone does it or if the higher ups normally look the other way- once the official investigation opened on this guy, they would have had to take action against anything illegal they found. That he was ever charged with child porn for those photos of his niece is horrible, but that doesn't change his willful violation of a direct order. It's just too bad for him that they found his real porn because it.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 7:36:17 AM I find it hard to believe that the average soldier doesn't have some kind of adult porn on their computer. It gets lonely over there, I'm sure. And that sucks that a family member probably sent those pictures of his niece to him and he got in trouble for it. |

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 7:22:38 AM right, because porn is more offensive than murder? really? Afghanistan's Muslim law now allows rapists to go free if they offer to marry their victims. The same practice actually exists in Mexico and is known as ‘Rapto.’ The new law has touched-off riots in the streets of Kabul, as hundreds of women protested the law which would be unthinkable in a civilized society. However, groups of men from Kabul’s largest Shia madrassa also took to the streets and attacked the women. The event has been completely ignored by the American press. Activist Razia Jan, who is currently building a women's center in Bamiyan said: "Violence against women is already endemic. Men pay thousands of dollars for young girls and they are treated like slaves. Women here are already so vulnerable." right, because we wouldn't want to offend the moral standards of these people.

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 5:05:37 PM puishment. Not his punishment. That some people will forever think this guy had child porn is very sad, and I really feel for him in that regard. That he served our country, I applaud. But he violated a General Order, and was punished for it. |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 5:03:38 PM I did some research, and here's what I found. General Order 1B is what prohibits military personnel from possessing porn in several countries, including Afghanistan. Violations of any General Order are covered under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Article 92 of the UCMJ gives a Maximum Penalty as follows: "Violation of failure to obey other lawful order. Bad-conduct discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 6 months." So, his less than honorable discharge, with no confinement, is less than the maximum. While I respect what splurbyburbl said regarding the amount of porn over there (AND WHAT HE DID! THANK YOU!), I have to say that if you have the porn, and you get caught, for whatever reason, you have to face the punishment. AGAIN, I'm NOT saying he had child porn, but that he admitted to having porn, and that is punishable by much more than what he got in his plea. I feel sorry for his repuation being soiled, but not his punish |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 4:57:09 PM Handsompod, you are right. I wonder why no one ever investigates those who make the complaint in the first place. Unless it's evident, naked baby pictures are not porn. Whoever thinks they are is the sick one. |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 4:55:51 PM I spent 8 months in Afghanistan, specifically Khandahar and Bastion. I can tell you without a doubt that most, I repeat... MOST U.S. Military mena dn women have hard drives full of porn out there. Hell, admittedly it was nice to have! All the powers that be absolutely know it. This kid must have pissed somebody off really bad. There was a Gunny out there that I knew for a bit. He got busted for legitimate child pornography and is in prison now. It's crazy because you never really can tell just from talking with people. |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 4:30:50 PM Does anyone know the punishment for having Porn in Afghanistan? What's the Army's punishment for it, and what is Afghanistan's punishment for it?If a less than honorable discharge is the punishment for possession of normal porn in Afghanistan, than he got what he deserved. If he only got that punishment because of the accusations of child porn, then I feel for the guy. As far as the child porn goes, the pictures we've seen are certainly not child porn. |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 12:36:37 PM I think the person who saw the photos on his laptop and thought, "hey she looks sexy" and then reported him, should be charged. If some-one went through my photo albums and looked at my naked baby pictures and thought there was anything sexy about them, I'd report them. Not hand myself in for possessing pictures of a naked child. (I'd just like to point out that the naked baby pictures I possess are of myself and brother) Whats next?! Should I report my mother for having pictures of a naked baby? Should I sue her for violating my human rights because she forced me, or allowed me unwittingly to have my nakedness photographed. No the people who find this sexy are sick and it is those people that should be punished. Not an obviously caring guy who dotes on his neighbours kids. |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 11:11:06 AM 1. no it's not, it's the continuation of the story.2. He didn't have porn, and the charges are that he had child porn. 3. You got me there. 4. Possessing child porn violates a child's right to privacy. Simply viewing them in an exploitative fashion is damaging to them. You're an idiot. (are you in the army?) |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 10:22:39 AM 1. This is a repost, old news.2. You're not allowed to have porn while in the US army? Seems like a violation of rights. 3. The US army is stupid, but this is not hard to prove. 4. You can get a decade of jail for merely possessing child porn? What's the sentence for those who make the child porn? Beheading? Possessing it doesn't violate anyone else's rights, making it does - clearly. |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 9:30:22 AM Because having pornography is so much more horrific than, say, shooting people? Is this really the type of issue our Army is focusing on? |

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 9:22:19 AM haha. i'd rather be a convicted felon (not sexcrimes) than be a brainwashed fascist piece of crap. the only thing i want to hear from the u.s. military is an apology to the whole world for propagating the terrorism they're supposedly fighting. |
