Saturday, March 06, 2010 5:07:07 PM Theatrical wrestling is to real wrestling as figure skating is to hockey. One's an art, a performance, and a story. The other is an actual sport. |

Saturday, March 06, 2010 3:13:37 PM While I have no interest in watching this sort of wrestling, I've got to say I have a real respect for the wrestlers. Acting in theater is hard enough, but trying to improvise a performance (after all, they don't exactly rehearse beforehand) while simultaneously suffering a degree of bodily harm and all the while making it LOOK real is an impressive feat. |

Saturday, March 06, 2010 1:43:28 PM Also they completely admit that it's scripted when they are speaking out of their character ( watch youtube where a guy named Chris Jericho admits it on some radio show or something)..I have never seen Dr. House stab a guy on the show "in-character" saying "Nah don't worry, it's just a puppet, this is just a show" .. same is for wrestlers. They are booked to appear on shows/most interviews etc. as in-character persons representing the kind of guy they play on television. |

Saturday, March 06, 2010 1:40:12 PM iceblack, get your goggles on..I thought the phrase "I for one.." made clear that the things that follow are my personal opinion. The guy I was talking to did not make any statement of that kind and left it as a universally correct statement ( or fact to use that word). So there is no ability needed to be a pro wrestler? Go try putting on a show like they do. Yes, the stories, the punches, how them atches go is all predefined. But don't forget about the incredible athletic ability these men need to perform their work for people. The next thing you are going to tell me is that they don't really fall on their backs, don't really jump over each other and do all this crazy stuff they do. In conclusion it still stands.. yes it's entertainment and for most parts "Scripted" ( No, not fake, they really hit themself with chairs, just not as hard as they pretend). But the hazards are real and they need to put up a lot of training and perfection to NOT hurt themself o |

Saturday, March 06, 2010 12:24:24 PM @Corydoras87And your post is not YOUR personal opinion?... Anyway. The difference between "Professional" wrestling and any TV show is that they try to tell us that this is real Don't know about you, but I've never seen any actor saying "You know, my movie did happened and I actually got killed. Is not just a story" And even worse!!! They try to sell wrestling as a SPORT!!!!Do you know what that means? That we should look at those clowns and actually think that they deserve a prize for what they do... See the difference? |

Saturday, March 06, 2010 12:19:41 PM Pro wrestling works on so many levels - theater of the absurd, interpretive dance, burlesque, carnival sideshow, and so on. The one level it completely fails on is that of sport. The actual sport of wrestling is limited to high school and college athletes these days. |

Saturday, March 06, 2010 11:09:55 AM "y are people drawn to wrestling? its definitely one of the most embarrassing things u can have on ur tv"It's embarassing to post "definite" "facts" without giving a proper reason or explanation as to why that is.. you know what that does with your post? it makes it a personal opinion. I for one enjoy watching pro wrestling for the storylines. Of course he doesn't kick the opponent for real.. but I also enjoy watching doctor House without thinking he could even cure a cold or thinking that he gets slapped for real when doing stupid stuff.. or that there really is an almost dead guy on the table... No. it's show, it's entertainment and it's fun to me. So wrestling is nothing else than watching House, Fringe, Bones, NCIS or other series. The thing is.. wrestling has no seasons or a date when it's supposed to end.. it goes on and on and on. By the way: Go watch Spike TV this monday evening! TNA Wrestling going live against the big bad WWE! Check it out |
