Lowe22, it's not a waterfall. First, there's no river leading to it, and second, it's coming from the top of the rock.This site has original scans of the tourist brochures showing exactly what they did and how they did it. http://www.firefall.com/journal.asp 
They stopped doing the Yosemite Firefall more than 40 years ago. Jeff Sullivan, the guy who posted that picture on Flicker claiming it as his own, is a lying sack of $h!+. |

It was filmed in New Zealand, but a LOT of scenes were filmed in front of a blue screen, in a studio. Very likely, in Hollywood.
And Lord of the Rings is literature first, movie second. |

Sounds like you got a good one Davy! (possibly jolokia chillies from the sound of it)There is no standard faal, so sometimes (for a mid-life-crisis-chilli-head) its a disappointment. Sometimes a 'lesser' heat dish is packing some serious chile and it blows your socks off. Last nights was good. "hurt me plenty" without actually killing me. I wish capsaiwhatsit dissolved before exiting though... Totally Kamchatked today!

After my sixth glass of milk, I had to call the waiter over to ask if it was supposed to hurt this much while I was eating it... Little did I know that the intense pain of ingestion was only to be surpassed the next day by the excruciating agony of the subsequent excretion. Never again. |

Actually Davymid there is a LOT of lava (or magma, if you want to be technical) in Yosemite. Just not at the surface.
Ohhh, be careful about being getting technical around a geologist. Lava, by the very definition of the term, is magma at the surface. Hence no lava at Yosemite. I rest my case, Your Honour. |

it's not Photoshop. It's a long-term exposure accomplished by holding the camera's shutter open to achieve the softened effect of the lava in this picture
There ain't no lava in Yosemite, buddy. And for what it's worth, that quote is from the movie only. Doesn't appear in Tolkien's original text. |
