Wednesday, February 03, 2010 2:30:51 PM I'd buy him lunch if he actually wanted food. Doubt it though. I've given a a homeless dude a couple bucks at a Walgreen's before too. Clearly we were both there for beer. |

Wednesday, February 03, 2010 3:49:16 AM You know, if I happened to have the time spare, I might just have lunch with this guy if I encountered him; he's asking for food, rather than money, and I'd be the one spending it, so I'd know it's actually going on food. And having a meal with him and hearing his story, or whatever he wants to talk about, might be an interesting experience. |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 11:42:18 PM I gave up a long time ago. There was one time a lady came in to a smoothie place where I was and I was reaching for my wallet when I smelled the cigarettes on her. At $6 a pack, I'm sure she can find the money, or the welfare to feed her kids. Screw the whole lot of them, drugs, alcohol and all. |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 4:29:09 PM "I was stopped at a traffic light once and a guy asked me for money because he said he was hungry. I told him to meet me across the intersection at McDonald's and I would buy him some lunch. He declined. I spotted the same guy a couple of hours later on my way back through that same intersection as he was walking out of the liquor store at Walgreen's."That's what my dad does when he sees homeless people. |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 1:44:51 PM Jesus there are as many homless people in San Francisco as there are homed people. I do believe some cities ship their homless here during the winter so they don't die. |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 12:00:14 PM The other day a panhandler asked me for money so he could get a ticket for the train. I said "I have an extra ticket I could give him." "No I need the money so I can get a ticket for later." he replied. He then walked away and asked the next person the same thing. |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 11:39:17 AM I stopped helping them out when a kid, clean cut looking, college age- told me he left his wallet at home and needed $2.50 to get on the train, I pulled out a $5 and he said thanks he could get his coffee now too!!! yeah he had the same story for me like 3 more times after that, I never fell for poo again. Sorry but there are plenty of resources out there. I'll bring them food or hot beverages in the winter, but I will NEVER Hand over monetary pity again |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 11:03:33 AM omg he seriously asked that? thats ridiculious. You're doing something generous and then he just wants more and more...if I were you, I would have slapped him in the face and told him to get a damn job |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 10:57:47 AM Juggalette, they're getting very creative. Some things they try is fake crying, wiping away tears that haven't formed yet, bringing attention to the fact that they ARE begging, apologizing over and over for said begging, making up family members that are in the same boat...the list is pretty long.My pity stopped when I gave a guy three bucks and he asked point blank: "You got any more?" |

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 10:34:25 AM This reminds me of one time, I was stuck in providence rhode island for 7 hours before I could get back to new haven because it was a holiday and they didn't tell me that the greyhound schedule was changed. I met a guy there who was from like cali and went to throw a party and the party was supposed to make quite a bit of money and it didn't. He had no plan B so he was basically stuck there until he could find a way home. He was telling me how he hadn't ate in like a week, so I gave him $20 to go buy something to eat...he told me he would bring me back my change....he didn't. Last time I ever trust homeless people.... |
