Heh y2k... My paranoid tinfoil-hat wearing parents bought two cases of dried lentils, a case of rice, and a crapload of bottled water "Just in case". They still have it all collecting dust in their pantry too. Just early for the next round: 2012.

Without Y2K we wouldn't have the movie Office Space, so it all worked out.

I remember. All that hoopla over getting a "Y2K Compliant" computer in every home and the only thing it was supposedly going to affect if anything were financial systems.

And not one working model left up and running to show that the whole "bug" was real.

I remember hearing about Y2K, then checking whatever the equivalent of wikipedia was back then, discovering that it wasn't worth worrying about, then getting on with my life.

"Didn't they use the Mayan Calendar argument back then too?"

Some relied on the Mayan calendar, most just listened to John Connor and Arnie.

Lando-

my friends and I had a similar plan, but we got drunk and went to far by using a truck to back over the power relay box for the end of the street we were on.

It's all fun and games until someone goes to jail.

I remember someone telling me that because the computer's date would roll over to 1900, the computer would think to itself "It is 1900. Computers have not yet been invented. Therefore I do not exist". And that the computer would then wipe all the information on it and shut down.

I laughed in their face.

I remember that the general mindset was that after 2000 we would start living like the Jetsons. Notsomuch. But technology has come a long way.
