Indeed it has already happened. I remember reading about a city council meeting somewhere, and one councilman was accused of racism because he kept saying the only black member of the city council was being "niggardly" - yes, it is a real word, but was it really necessary to choose that word to describe the only black guy in the room? The jury is still out on that one. |

This is how i discovered Niger was a county. When i was little a respectable newspaper had a headline about Niger starves and showed a picture of a starving child.... I didnt know and thought WTF then some enlightend me it was a country in Africa |

Niger does NOT have to be capitalized. There is a seed called niger. Although the overly politically correct and now pushing to change the name: "To differentiate between the imported niger oilseed used to feed wild birds and thistle - as well as to eliminate any possibility of offensively mispronouncing the word "niger" - the Wild Bird Feeding Industry trademarked the name Nyjer in 1998. Unfortunately, Nyjer seed is still referred to by many people who feed wild birds as well as by some in the industry who package and sell wild bird food and as both niger and thistle."The words "niggardly" and "niggling" are no doubt on their way out as well.
