Wednesday, January 06, 2010 3:18:01 AM Tuesday, January 05, 2010 10:45:45 AM Decades end with TEN, not with nine. You count to ten, you start with one and end with ten. Why are these stupid newspeople saying the decade's over? 2010 is the last year of the decade. 2000 was the last year of the 20th century. twenty hundred=2000. frikkin retards. ______________________________________He's from the south, cut him some slack! |

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 6:26:38 PM revdrdark "frikkin retards."I love it when people are so wrong and think they're so right. They really don't look too smart. I'm not saying you're totally wrong revdrdark, a decade could be any combination of ten years (1993-2002). Depending on who you talk to you could be right or you could be wrong. Before you get all high and mighty next time take 2 minutes and double check your knowledge. Decade: A decade is a period of ten years. The word is derived (via French) from the Late Latin decadem which actually stands for ten days. The other words for spans of years also come from Latin: lustrum (5 years), century (100 years), millennium (1000 years). - Your Mom and good ol Wiki Although any period of ten years is a decade,[1][2] a convenient and frequently referenced interval is based on the tens digit of the calendar year, as in using 1960s to represent the decade from 1960 to 1969.

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 12:54:01 PM If all I have in my pocket is a penny, it is the first penny of my first dollar. The day I was born was the first day of the first year of my life, and I was one year old as soon as it was over. Same for Jesus, no zeroes involved. OTOH, looking at the numbers as a counter, the first digit counts millenia, the second centuries, the third decades and the fourth years. Same for the mileage of your car or your power meter. Stop nitpicking. Tolerate others. Party twice.

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 1:13:47 AM The A.D. system was devised before "origin 0 counting" was invented, and the starting year was accordingly numbered 1. So the 1st century was 1 to 100, the 2nd was 101 to 200, the 20th is 1901 to 2000... This is standard terminology no matter how much some of you may dislike it. However, "a" century or millenium is any span of 100 or 1000 years; so if you want to celebrate the end of "the century" or "the millenium", meaning 1900-1999 or 1000-1999, on December 31, 1999, you certainly can. It just isn't the end of the "20th century A.D." or "2nd millennium A.D.". This would apply to decades as well. |

Monday, January 04, 2010 11:58:38 PM Oh wow...pokemon is over 10 years old...now i feel old. On an unrelated note: the shark in the 2008/culture box is a work by Damien Hurst, the highest paid artist in modern history. I used to be a big fan of his work until i found out that he rarely makes his own stuff anymore. |

Monday, January 04, 2010 10:06:23 PM Oh Jeepers not the old "when does the decade start?" debate again, has it been 10 years already since the last one!?Don't argue about it. A child begins life the moment it is born, it is a whole year old at its 1st birthday, 2 yrs old at its 2nd birthday, etc. The decade starts on 01Jan10 and ends on 31Dec19. EVERY decade ends on 9, not at the end of the entire year AFTER. |

Monday, January 04, 2010 9:38:04 PM ok i just have one thing to say about this silly debate thing: society counts 0-9 to be the decade. its still 10 years, it still counts. you may think differently, both sides have good points. but society does recognize it that way. and i think everyone who disagrees, has the right to do so, but should keep it to themselves, celebrate the new millennium in 2001, and the new decade in 2011, thats fine, but dont try telling other people theyre wrong when they very well may not be (that goes for both sides) celebrate however youd like. but do recognize how the majority of the people think, and try to keep the rioting to a minimum. :) thanks for reading!yours truly, peacemaker, Krazy |

Monday, January 04, 2010 8:40:29 PM Actually, it has been a decade. Let's count! 2000 (1) 2001 (2) 2002 (3) 2003 (4) 2004 (5) 2005 (6) 2006 (7) 2007 (8) 2008 (9) 2009 (10) Yay!!! And yes, 2000 counts, because 1990 was part of the 90's, not the 80's. |
