Tuesday, January 05, 2010 4:09:43 AM I pay about 8$ a month for my 100/100 connection, but I think that's some kind of student offer. It sucks that Finland ranks higher than Sweden, but we're way ahead of Denmark and Norway at least |

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 4:07:34 AM Whee, I love living in Japan with my dedicated 100mbit fiber connection into my apt. As for who asked what use is a 61mb connection? Well plenty - when you have a well peered ISP you get very fast transfer rates wherever you want. Oh, we don't have bandwidth capping either. If I'm downloading popular TV shows via bittorrent for example, I often top 8-9 MB/s - thats megabytes per second, or over 72mbit/s sometimes. If I test within Japan I usually get over 90mbits measured. One reason here is that Internet is being used for both broadcast and on-demand TV service - instead of satellite and/or cable. Infrastructure has to be first rate. |

Monday, January 04, 2010 10:04:58 PM What the hell good is a 61mbps connection, anyway? I have an 8mbps connection, and since I've had it, I only found one server, Mediafire, that could max it out, and that was over 2 years ago. Lately they've been running less that 1/4 that fast. I can barely even remember the last time I downloaded anything faster than 4mbps. With all the net congestion and slow/overloaded servers out there, I'm lucky to get downloads at 1mbps. If I could save $20/month by dropping my connection speed to 4mbps, I'd do it. |
