Thursday, October 22, 2009 8:59:16 PM There is NOTHING more soothing than watching a flock of flying panties. BTW, I caught a panty once. Kept it in a cage, in the garage for a few days before it died. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 5:55:35 PM Sing it, Miku. Your voice is the only one that can serenade these flying panties. Seriously, though. I'm confused as hell, but I'm so impressed I don't care. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 4:08:18 PM i wish this was my IPT project. SO much cooler, and it incorporates some pretty complex aerodynamics when you get into it. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 3:52:53 PM I wouldn't have assumed it would be /that/ hard...you'd just need to make it have a light frame that stretches the panties really tight, so rather than being all floppy, they'd be able to push against the air? That is a guess though... if we do have a competition about this (as Manymasks suggested - it would be awesome), I would have to try. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 3:40:39 PM I don't know, this doesn't seem as bizarre as other things I've seen from Japan. I'll have to agree with ManyMasks on this one. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 3:26:45 PM Okay, to explain this to everyone, devices that use flapping to achieve flight are known as ornithopters. Yes, the things from Dune actually exist. I worked on one over this summer, trying to build it with two independently flapping sets of wings. The build in the video has a stabilizing tail, and uses a model-airplane-rotor grade rubber band to act as energy storage, motor, and crank shaft. If you want to build something like this (and it would be so cool to have an IAB ornithopters compilation or contest) go to www.ornithopter.org.Just a note: I think it would be technically difficult but interested to try flying a pair of panties like this, but seeing as it's increasingly difficult to fly smaller models, you would have to get an XXL size pair, and who can bear the embarrassment of ringing THAT up at the counter? -I'm a frequent viewer here at IAB, but I rarely c |
