I call tech support just to harass them. operator: What version of windows do you have.
Me: Casement windows.
operator: I'm not familiar with that.
Me: Casement windows are hinged on the side and swing out like a door, to the right or left, in a swinging motion.
Operator: I meant operating system. |

I worked a teletech, i will always remember a guy that was having issues with his internet explorer, couldnt open his mail he kept saying, and that he had just won a price over the internet... I told him to close that window, and he asked me whether he should leave the curtains open or closed. One week later i just had to quit |

Tech support is awful. Many of you pointed out the reasons why already. I worked for one providing tech support for Comcast. People would call because the tech who came to install their internet sh*t in their attic. You want to hear someone yell, talk to someone who had a stranger sh*t between the rafters in their attic and who now blames you. call centers blacken your soul. This guy is a hero of everyone who has worked in a call center. And saying "you don't know what its like" is an apt statement because there is no way you can explain what working in a call center is like to anyone who has never had the misfortune. No words can describe how the darkness takes hold ;) |

Some people. I actually liked this aspect of working in a tech support call center... that and patiently explaining to lawyers with features questions that all of our time is worth exactly the same amount when we are out of our depth. |

@ evil eye: "working class life"... are you kidding?! I worked for a call center my senior year of high school. It was filled with people from the oh-so-convenient local halfway house. No, call center jobs are more akin to spending 8hrs a day semi-conscious being raped with a pineapple. Not so fun. Not so necessary. |

For everyone who sais others don't know what it is like... I have worked in call centers, shops, resturants, offices and clubs. None of them I liked and none of them wasn't filled with idiots who made me what to strangle them on the spot. That's working class life, deal with it.Don't use "you don't know what it is like" as a excuse, it makes you sound like 12 year old. |

Lostinkorea...you have no idea what the job is like. Try taking call after call after call (seriously, you hung up with one person, and you had to hit ready, only to be hammered by another call) for 10 hours a day of people screaming at you because their printer doesn't work anymore, or that they can't hit one specific website on the internet, or when a technician came over, he touched their jar of mayonnaise.
I worked through the September 11th attacks. The WTC had two central offices in it. The attacks took out thousands of phone lines. Techs were scrambling to get service back on for those people. Some jackass bitched that he didn't have internet access and "not to give the World Trade Centre attacks as an excuse."
TSAs thought they had it tough, but the Resolution Group was the TSA dumping ground. If they couldn't handle a call, they gave it to us. 90% of the time that meant "irate caller".
I'd like to see how you'd fair with dealing with screami |

Bwahahahah! I used to work for TeleTech doing the DSL technical support that "Tom" did (I was a Resolution Group Agent), but I know his pain. I left about a year before "Tom" left...I was a little kinder in my exit interview, though. |
