Monday, September 07, 2009 10:03:05 AM "I agree, but the execution in teaching it (at least in the US School System) is terrible. " EXACTLY! There are a lot of teachers (im still a highschooler) that fail miserably at teaching. They only go for the easy-to-meet benchmarks and dont teach us beyond that. Thats kind of annoying when you take psychology 1 and 2, and only read half of both of the books your given. I had to go find a library and read them over the summer thanks to that. All of my classes I've ever taken have done this. Theres either a problem with how its being taught or the books have too much information and they need to summarize better. |

Monday, September 07, 2009 9:46:36 AM Wow. Erm, yeah I find myself having trouble studying now that I'm in college. I should've cheated my way through High School, I'd be an expert now and I wouldn't have to study. Grrr. |

Monday, September 07, 2009 6:52:58 AM I never studied either going through school, and did just fine. But now at university it's impossible not to study, and it's hit me that I don't actually know how to. Knowing what I know now I would have studied in high school. I did attempt to cheat a few times. Trouble was, though, I put so much effort into making the cheat sheet but then realized while in the exam that I already remembered everything on it. |

Monday, September 07, 2009 2:32:26 AM Baalthazaq, I'm not going to argue. Our experiences with cheat sheets and study habits are obviously just very different. |

Monday, September 07, 2009 2:28:56 AM > BaalI never studied at all, for anything, other than listening when it was first explained in class. I got Credit or High Distinction (equivalent to A or A+) on everything. The trouble is, when I left school, I didn't know how to study, so I had to quickly learn the skills I was meant to be learning all those years in order to be good on the job. 90% of what you learn at school ISN'T the subject material, it's HOW to research, organize, evaluate, etc; cheatsheets will help you pass a test but they will never teach you what you were meant to learn. |

Sunday, September 06, 2009 11:25:59 PM "Study=hours, Cheatsheet=minutes, higher chance of notfail"Except you're wrong on all 3 counts. 1) Actually failing is hard. Doing poorly not so much. 2) Making a cheat sheet only takes minutes if you already know what to write down, in which case, studying is only minutes. Otherwise both are hours. 3) Chance for getting caught = chance of fail. 4) I never, ever, ever, studied for more than an hour. I never got less than a B. I studied by waiting in the hall before a test and listening to the other students panic, ask each other questions and give each other answers. By the end of the 30 minutes I'd know the answers to all the most common questions. |

Sunday, September 06, 2009 10:54:20 PM Actually, my Calc teacher let us make a cheat sheet for our final exam with whatever we could fit on a 3" x 5" index card. I still have mine. Here's one side of it.

It's like... they rather have the thrill from the possibility of getting caught than the thrill of passing a test on their own. Is that it?"Studying = hours + higher chance of fail Cheat sheet = minutes + higher chance of notfail |
