What a farce. How many people have died of the swine flu globally? A little more than 400, or is it more by now? Belgium knows 15000 deaths subscribed to regular flu during the winter every year. |

There are chicken pox parties and what not that already exist, so this sort of idea comes into play, but unfortunately this is much more dangerous. |

It isn't as ridiculous as it sounds. There is decent logic behind it:Premises: The current strain of swine flu is a mild form of flu. It is a novel strain of flu, so very few people have immunity to it. It might mutate into a much more dangerous form. Conclusion: It is better to be infected with the current mild form and thus have a resistance to severe forms that might well exist in the future. It's sort of like an insurance policy. You take the relatively small loss of money (premiums) because of the risk of a far larger loss of money (house burning down or whatever). |

Actually, I am rather hoping I do catch it, at least then I will get a certain immunity for the future. Mortality is pretty low at present, but to be fair, where I live it will be a while before it gets here, by which time the whole damn country will be off sick. Including my GP. Then I will be royally screwed. |
