Madest, Obama is a Christian. Accept it. Believing in evolution doesn't make someone not a Christian.

How many Christians do you know? You either had some bad experiences with a couple of bad ones or you walk blindly through life ignoring all the ones who are great examples.

To everyone putting all Christians into one group and putting down the whole religion because of a vocal few need to look in the mirror and realize that they are doing to Christians what they claim Christians are doing to other groups.
--------------------------------------------------

Wrong again bub! No one's telling you it's immoral or wrong to be a christian!

We, the vocal group are just telling you to keep your religious beliefs to your own damn selves and stop dictating how the other side should live!

Think of this: During the last election cycle at one of the republican debates the questioner said: "Raise your hand if you believe in evolution." Only 2 of the 6 republicans on stage raised their hand.

The same question was posed to the democrats at their debate. All seven raised their hand including Barack Obama.

There is now a choice in this country. Vote for the fairy tale party that prays to god everything will be OK, or vote for the intelligent party. It's a shame that's where we are as a society. All you can do is blame the religious nuts and their defenders.

"I don't think Obama believes in religion"

Evidence, please. Or is just something you believe?

If we're gonna sit here and pick-apart Christianity and its belief system, why not have some fun and do it for all religions? We can at least be equal opportunity bigots. I mean, I'm sure Muslims love the idea of gay marriage.

I know the Christian bashing stems from people in the debate using it to oppose gay marriage. Criticize them though, not the entire religion. Ignore people who claim to speak for the whole religion. They don't. That's why there are so many denominations. We don't all believe the same things and interpret the Bible the same way.

Tbh. I don't think Obama believes in religion. One must pretend to have religion to get elected by all the inbred d!cks in America but I'm pretty sure he knows it's all hocus-pocus BS.
You on the other hand keep coming to the defense of peoples "beliefs". Without scientific backing everyone is supposed to back-off and let the crazies hate anyone they want. I think you're just retarded. People believed in Hale Bopp. People drank kool-aide because Jim Jones told them to. Christianity is akin to diet kool-aide.

"Hold the phone, I thought it was Christians that did that? You know, the whole "The only way to salvation is through Jesus. Soz guys, but you lot are all going to burn for eternity in hell because you're on the wrong team?"

Any 'Christian' that thinks him/herself better than any one else because of a religious belief is suffering from a severe case of pride and is going to be sorely disappointed come the end of days.

That being said, because an athiest refuses to believe in all this 'nonsense', does that give him/her the right to ridicule the religious? I don't think so, just as being Christian doesn't give me the right to ridicule an athiest. Just as a fit person doesn't have the right to ridicule an unfit one. It's the same thing right? Simply a choice?

vv "Don't turn the tables here. If you're putting down religions for their belief in a messiah and an afterlife"

No, I'm putting down Christianity for promoting homophobia and repression of gay rights. Same way as I'll put down Islam for it's horrific oppression of women.

Just because it's someone's religion does not make it above reprehension.

Look, I have no problem with Christians, or Christianity. As a belief system, that's fine, each to their own. But when that belief system (based on a bunch of scrolls written by primitives back in the Bronze Age) starts to encroach on reality in 2009 - such as gay rights - then you bet your ass I'll flame it all the way.

Davymid,

Don't turn the tables here. If you're putting down religions for their belief in a messiah and an afterlife (or reincarnation), then you are putting down all religions with the same belief.

So ALL Christians are jerks? Is Obama a jerk? Many denominations allow gay church leaders. They have homosexual Christian groups.

I'm not really against gay marriage. Am I a jerk?

And now you're going to demean people with mental disabilites too?

What seriously needs to happen is a nation-wide agreement on the definition of marriage. If we, as a nation, can agree that marriage is between a man and woman before God and the Church, then it needs to be removed from state policy entirely and replaced with something else. For instance: everyone, regardless of sexuality, gets a civil union (partnership, whatever); that way you can get married through the church without stepping on any toes, and no one has any right to complain about same-sex unions.

I am a Christian and fully support same-sex couples (or marriage, if we can decide it's separate from the church... the name is inconsequential). I have a few gay friends and love them dearly. I also believe that they will be forgiven their sins when they die because they are Christian and because of the sacrifice of Jesus. Just as I'll be forgiven for eating buckets and buckets of shrimp and sex before marriage. =P

Supersmash,
Don't use retard logic. Nobody here is voting on Christians right to marry fat inbred rednecks of the opposite sex. Everybody in the nation has to bend to these morons beliefs in spite of what the constitution says.
If Christians loved thy neighbor as they love themselves gay marriage would not be an issue. Christians (and all religious nuts) are d!cks. That simple.

To demean people for what they believe in is ridiculous. While you're at it, why don't you go ahead and put down all Muslims, Jews, and Hindus.

To everyone putting all Christians into one group and putting down the whole religion because of a vocal few need to look in the mirror and realize that they are doing to Christians what they claim Christians are doing to other groups.

It's wrong, it's immature, and shows intolerance for other's views. Even if you disagree with someone's views, you shouldn't make personal attacks on them. Not a sinlge person in this group has personally attacked a single homosexual. The mud-slinging has been one-way and in many ways it's shameful.

I'm a Christian. Yet, I'm rational, open-minded, and accepting of other views and cultures. I represent the vast majority. People who dislike Christians look past the good examples and focus only on those who give it a bad name.

Why should the gays have to conform to christian beliefs i.e. homosexuality is wrong. The gays aren't asking the christians to become gay. I guess I don't see why both groups of people can't coexist peacefully... with neither forcing they're beliefs and ways of life on the other. Oh yea that's right- we're humans- we're doomed to destroy ourselves, along with everything else on this crumbling planet.
