@crakrjak

but really, gay marriage doesnt affect people who dont have gay marriages....

what is this? a plot to take over the world by gays?

the point is, why do you even care? if you dont think homosexuality is neccesarily *wrong,* then what hurt could come to you personally if gays could be married?

CrakrJak: Are you kidding me? Marriages are NOT the same as civil unions! Are you out of you mind? You know gay couple have had to lie to see their spouses in the hospital, saying they're a family member because otherwise they don't have the right? And you can get married without going to a catholic church. Go down to the courthouse and apply for a marriage license. EVERYONE should be able to marry, regardless of race, sexual orientation, or religion. And, by the way, your comment about "straight" words and traditions is absolutely disgusting. Really, be ashamed of yourself, you ignorant prick.

You know what?

It's FINE. Really, seriously it's fine.

Go ahead, put your fingers in EVVVVVERYONE'S business but your own. It's PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE.

It doesn't even concern you, but no, GO AHEAD, MAKE IT YOUR OWN BUSINESS. IT'S FINE.

Not like it'd be rude to go into someone else's house and home and rearrange THEIR furniture to the way YOU like it. It's not your house BUT WHO CARES!? The way THEY arrange THEIR furniture is suddenly YOUR business! It's acceptable right?

No...wait...it's not? IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE TO TELL OTHER PEOPLE WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG ABOUT HOW THEY LIVE THEIR OWN LIVES!?

REALLY!?

My stars! What a new concept! MINDING ONE'S OWN BUSINESS!

My GOD! I'm...STUNNED at the VERY IDEA!

"2. marriage does not equal civil union
3. and why *can't* they have the ability to use the word "marriage?" you think that its going to be stolen?"

According to most states laws civil-unions have the same legal standing as marriages (Some states may differ, or not offer them at all) This issue is up to the individual states.

Secondly, Gays and lesbians have been on a crusade lately to tear down societal walls and force their agenda into churches and other institutions that don't want them.

Seriously, I'm not catholic, So does that mean I should be able to force a catholic church to marry me and my partner ? Get real.

i dont get when people say "gay marriage will ruin the sacredness (thats not a word...) of marriage".
it hasnt been sacred since about 800, when people started marrying each other for power. then divorce ruined it even more...

Why, California, why. I wish that stupid state would stop causing drama and just float away already. We all knew California wasn't going to let gays marry (even if the rest of the world knows they should). That state is all freaking drama, with its pot, marriage, and money issues. California is that girl you all knew in high school who said she was getting wasted on the weekend when really she stayed home and watched Breakin' 2.

It's a hairy question because while i think Gay people should have every right to get married i also think that it's wrong to force that opinion on to others. If this means that churches that don't believe in gay marriage are allowed to say no but gay couples cans till get married outside the church then i think it's a good call, but if it illegalizes gay marriage all together then it's outrageous.

@primetimekin

It is illegal in most areas of the United States. A Santaria man was convicted because, although it was part of his religion, it was illegal in his residential area.

Bloody hell..whats with this whole "marrige goes hand in hand with the church" BS idea?

Marrige has ZIP to do with the church anymore. By SilverThreads reasoning, then hetro couples who marry in registry offices are not recognised married couples either! Infact what about religions who dont have churches? Are their marriges invalid?

I got news for ya bub. There are plenty of atheist, muslem, hindu etc etc couples out there who are VERY legally married and have never set foot in a church in their lives!

"I don't understand why gays and lesbians want to usurp the word "Marriage". I have nothing against civil-unions, But why do they feel the need to tear down "Straight" words, institutions, and traditions ?
In the end the Californian voters had their say, and now it's been upheld in court by a 6-1 overwhelming vote.
"

1. Fail!
2. marriage does not equal civil union
3. and why *can't* they have the ability to use the word "marriage?" you think that its going to be stolen??????

"spirit, that could all be worked out privately with the companies and/or hospital"

If you did some research you would know that statement is not true.

On first glance, I also like Bael's thoughts. But...what about things like who gets to visit you in the hospital...inheritance...medical benefits for spouses...

I'm not gay, nor am I religious, so Gay Marriage isn't an issue I worry about. Frankly, I don't give a rats ass if gay couples can't reproduce, there're too many damn people on the planet anyhow so reproduction is a moot point.

That coupled with the fact that most of the people that are interested in reproducing seem to be putting out a crap load of unloved children that grow up to be idiots and wind up being a huge pain in the ass, further justifies couples that can't have children. Hell I'm to the point that I'd like to see some of these jackasses sterilized at birth expressly so they *can't* reproduce, gay or not.

As far as Marriage, well, that whole Division of Church and State thing is pretty damn muddled there. Couples deserve all the same benefits, *but* for the same reason I am not eligible for the United Negro College Fund, gay people can't get married in just any church. It's the business of the members what happens inside their organization and if they say no, deal.
