"nice escape, je-scream, just spew out random hate and ignorance and run away."

". I have NOTHING against gay people, if you're gay then that's your right but do I think they should be able to wed NO."

Nice use of exaggerating what she said. Hope your period ends soon.

"You know what? F*ck Catholics. F*ck your religion. F*ck your intolerance."

I love how you say drat catholics, and drat intolerance. you are a contradiction wrapped in disagreement.

I agree with Mornaf. (Following not directed to you.)

You think it's wrong? You think it goes against your religion? You think it's disgusting? Fine. But don't punish others for your way of thinking. I'm sure you believe in human rights. Or am I wrong?

to be honest dragonshadoz, i find the entire debate on the legality of marriage really unsettling. to degrade something so sacred to monetary benefits and technicalities kind of makes me sick. but that's really whats being debated, the monetary advantages, so i couldn't care less. on a spiritual level though, true love is not between people of the same sex because it's too easy. it's easy to love your fellow man or woman because you are truly equal. true love is taking the division of man and woman and attempting to create unity.

"Stop being the poor victimized white male being forced to accept people who aren't like him. It's the language of a dinosaur."

That's suggesting I'm homophobic, I'm not. Worked with several homosexuals over the years and have never had a problem with them personally. I'm not going to force gay and lesbian bars to allow me entry or force black people to treat me like one of the homies.

Does that define things better for you ?

I'm going to throw my two cents in here, then run before the fire burns off my eyebrows.

I honestly, don't support gay marriage, just my opinion. However, while I do not agree with their lifestyles, I will defend to the death their rights to practice said lifestyle.
That's what America should be, pursuit of happiness and all that.

As if religious freedom and liberty for all, equated to a secular paradise, for secularism to rein in an "enlightened age" where the old man in the sky is just a reminder of ignorance and holier than thou nepotism.

dragonshadoz: Amaq. What do Athiests call marriage, I wonder?
I think you should know that civil unions are far from the same thing as marriage.

Well, I'm atheist, and I wish to be married someday... will that right be taken away from me? :(

"Your example was completely unrelated to the issue."

Not it's very relevant, There are many things I, As a white straight male, Cannot legally do. I am not equal to a woman, a latino, a black, a gay, or any other minority because they all get privileges (under several civil rights laws).

Members of minority groups get preference in hiring, lending, recruiting, admissions, etc..
And I'm not griping about it, That's just the way it is. Life isn't fair, Get used to it.

I see not one reason for gay's not to get married. I thought this was the home of the free? Not the home of right-wing evangelical ideas.

Ferdyfred, I'm moving to your country where things just seem simpler. I live in America and I understand why everybody hates us.

If we're going to toss out the bible, we need a substitute.

Here's an idea. Maybe us humans are enough. Maybe we got it nailed, and we should listen to each other and our proposed laws and constitutions and our ideas about how to run a society.

Funniest thing is, the American founding fathers already did that for us, without all the bronze-age wank that comes with it.

America is great because it is founded in humanism. America (uniquely) had a clean slate. That's what I love about America. It's a small glimpse of what the world could be without religion.

"If they weren't "special" rights then they'd be satisfied with the rights they have now"

I guess that's what they said to women before they won the right to vote. Or to black in the midst of slavery. Stop being the poor victimized white male being forced to accept people who aren't like him. It's the language of a dinosaur.

Yeah CrakrJak, the whole issue is based that these rights shouldn't be special. I personally see them more as denied rights which these people should have had since, well, always. Your example was completely unrelated to the issue.

I'm sad for all those couples who entertained thoughts and ideas of their future marriages or engagements, only to be disappointed once again. It's incredibly sorry that people would willingly block another human from enjoying the same rights as they. It is not special rights that are sought, but equal rights. I want to hear one person explain to me what is so horrible about letting two people of the same gender marry. Who in the world could they possibly be physically harming?
So many people say that it's not something to get so upset about, and that I should not shake with anger, or cry with sadness, but it is something that I, and many others, are passionate about. It's not about losing a vote. It's not about people hating/condemning/whatever homosexuals. It's not about "getting over it" or "moving on" or "sucking it up." It's about losing essential rights that so many have without a struggle, yet so many lack because of one group's bigotry.
