"Welcome to America. Please set your watch back two-hundred years."

I'm making the point of, What will our future look like in another 200 years ? Again, What crimes will be legalized in the name of freedom by then ? What things do we think of as vile and disgusting now be "evolved" tomorrow ?

I wouldn't say I'm upset, but I really do think it's a damn shame.

dragonshadoz: Had these legal questions been set in stone constitutionally 200 years ago, There would be no discussion of it now. The fact is no one ever dreamed these sort of issues would ever arise because they were thought disgusting, vile and horrifying.

Even if you could go back in time and show our nations founders the problems we have now, They'd have disregarded you as insane.

That is why I say now, That if the line is not drawn here now, And very clearly drawn at that, We will be in for problems we can't fathom now.. Just as the founders couldn't have, 200 years ago.

When was that tried, Crakr? I'm not talking about marriages and separate civil unions, I'm talking about making a civil union the exclusive legal term for everyone. Also, who would this hurt?

Changing your mind isn't comparable adapting to modern times. It will be legal someday even in your redneck state. Nobodies asking you to like it they're telling you to deal with it. And you will.

Whom is it hurting, Crakr?

The battle is not over, nor will it be over until same-sex marriage is legal. I'm sure everyone knows this. It's just going to be a constant cycle.
I've wondered if we wouldn't make more progress by just crying rather than yelling and being angry. Is it, in part, our anger and our frustration that adds to their anger and judgement?

And goodnight, Amaq.

Agentk120: That appeasement was tried and didn't satisfy them, Now they want it all regardless of who or what it hurts in the process.

I think the best way to go would be to make marriage a strictly religious thing and create a separate legal union for everyone, gay or straight. Everyone's equal under the state and the bigotry is left to the Church. Of course, I doubt that would ever happen.

"Opie.. bite some heads off and kick some arse for me whilst I sleep please!"

I have no more strength to be angry anymore. It's a battle too preposterous for me to fight. I try as hard as I can to be open-minded, but I honestly do not understand someone who wants to take away from me what they will gain nothing from.

It's beyond selfish. It's past ungenerous.

It's f*cking pompous.

That's it, I'm out.

Maddog: I simply respect the fact that he's not resorting to childish flaming like so many others have before, when I've discussed this issue. I respect that he's willing to hear me out.

Amaq: The fact that you cannot seem to fall for a man, I think, just shows that it's not so simple to fall for the same sex. I don't find it easy to just fall in love with a girl. It takes just as much effort for me to fancy someone as, I think, any straight person.

oh, and dragonshadoz, anyone bitching about the sanctity of marriage is full of sh*t anyway (divorce rate). if a gay couple is in a loving relationship they're a hell of a lot closer to the truth than most of this hypocritical selfish nation anyway.

*responsibilities

In other words, gay marriage goes against long-held ideals that no longer exist.

By the way, I'm completely up in the air on the subject. I still cling to my ideals, but I also think it's unfair to keep people from doing what they want as long as it harms no one else.

Civil unions I'm all for, but using the word "marriage" makes it a tough situation. Sorry, but that's just me.

well i kind of feel like i have to speak in terms of belief. its not like this metaphysical mumbo-jumbo counts for sh*t when you're dealing with reality. an attractive woman happens to affect me in a way that a man never has.

Well I dont respect amaq at all dragonshadoz. If he's to daft to acctually learn something thats his problem.

His whole arguement falls into the realsm of fantsy..litterally it's all based on faith rather than fact.

Considering the gay gene is proven fact and love is proven fact I'd pretty much say he's talking out of his arse!

Is it ironic that this decision was made on the two year and 6 month anniversary of my girlfriend and me?

I don't get people who think it will harm society. It has nothing to do with that in my opinion. I think many people just feel that legalizing same-sex marriage will validate negative behavior. It shatters the ideal of marriage.

Though it hardly exists at all, the ideal of marriage is a young couple getting married, having sex for the first time, having children, raising those children, and then growing old together to be mentors to their own children as they repeat the process.

Many people who oppose same-sex marriage may feel that it gives gay couples all the rights without any of the resposibilities. Like producing and raising children.
