I've sat in on an E911 call center shift, incoming call's swearing doesn't phase the professionals. And they never treat a victim like this. This control-freak needs to lose his job. All the training in the world isn't going to change his attitude.

The_Maddog if you pull your head out of your ass you can listen, one of two things happend on the first call. either she let it ring and didnt give anyone a chance to pick up OR she didnt like what the guy had to say and hung up like an idiot. then she called again, and she got another person! which is where this recording is from! you dont get the same person everytime u call 911 dumbass!

Surely it should be policy for the 911 operator to NEVER hang up on a call, even when it's obviously a prank call.Do they hang up when all they get is silence? They could assume that someone ass-dialed them...but it could just as easily be someone in a very desperate situation who has managed to make the call, but for whatever reason is unable to speak (medical emergency, for instance; managing to dial, but then passing out shortly afterwards). They're able to trace calls, right? Keep them on the line, find where the call is coming from, and send a response out. You'd either get help to an emergency, or you'll catch a prankster. You might make the argument that they should hang up so they're not wasting time that can be spent on real calls, but the answer to that is that they should have more staff to take the calls, not that they should make snap judgements about what's legitimate and what's not. ALL calls to 911 should be treated as severe emergencies until proven otherwise. |

I'd be swearing my arse off if I saw my dad on the floor having a stroke too. He hung up on her (quite a few times) when her father needed an ambulance desperately. That doesn't seem mean to you? |

To be fair, she did waste a lot of time yelling at him. She seems a lot like a bitch too though.
The reaction by the police officer was very poor, however.
As for keeping his job. He appears to be a very good officer besides this point it would be a shame to lose a good officer.
The news should have left him alone. |

Shove him in an office job filing parking tickets,where he doesn't have contact with the general public.What kind of a twat puts correcting a young girl's language above helping her when she calls emergency services.And then ARRESTS her!This is the problem with the police service.It attracts complete control freaks, who can't see beyond their own egos.And they ruin the reputation of all the good policemen out there,who join up for the RIGHT reasons,and are strong enough to take a 17-year girl muttering the f-word without crying.
My sister got knocked over by a car recently. She was fine (just bruised and badly shaken) but just seeing her hit and lying on the ground, I was completely freaked. I didn't (as far as I know) swear during my 999 call, but my brain was certainly not entirely engaged with my mouth.
MY emergency services lady was brill, told me she'd sent an ambulance, and THEN asked me all the details, kept me calm, gave me advice.... exactly what this hothead didn't do |

Okay, forum morons aside...I can understand people that don't accept swearing. It's fine. But when you're a cop, and someone calls you, frantic, needing immediate help, it shouldn't matter what language they use because THEY NEED EMERGENCY HELP. She's freaking out because her father is on the floor, possibly dying, and he's worried about the language she's using. Some protector of the people. Also, one of the main purposes of the 911 line is to calm people down. If he'd have just asked her to calm down a bit and explain, instead of berating her from the start, things could have gone a lot easier. Combine that with the fact that he swore BACK at her, instead of being the man he's supposed to be as a cop, and you have a combustion situation. Things exploded. Now, I wouldn't say FIRED is the right punishment. Suspension, for sure. But this guy's record is clean, so maybe there were some pre-existing circumstances, but that's no excuse. He SHOULD be punished, just maybe not f |

No, Dragosa,l you pull YOUR head out of YOUR ass and listen.Two things wrong with what you said. A) SHE didn't hang up after the first time when she didn't get anyone, HE hung up. SHE was in the middle of telling him to send an ambulance each time. B) She DID get the same person every time, so you're an immediate dumbass. Watch the video, and if you already did, watch it again and let it sink in through your thick skull. |
