I'm pretty sure 129 wouldn't get him very far in the Special Olympics. That is a horrible score. Jay Leno was kind of treating him like an overly self-conscious person would treat someone who was "bowling-challenged"... "oh no, that's REALLY good, REALLY good!" |

i laugh so hard at how democrats now r like... geez the media is just being unfair to obama and saying its trash that they think this is offensive BUT when a republican does something minor like that its all "LOOK that persons unfit for anything how unamerican of them"... finally the shoe is on the other foot for at least 4 years and u can see how it feels |

As a president it was definitely in very poor taste. I know he is just human but jokes like that should be kept quiet, especially as a public figure, and one that is being watched like a hawk to begin with. |

Oh, and there's all sorts of nasty, vile things that people say in private that I blow off. If Obama said some of those things, it would end in his impeachment. So, that's no argument.Probably the most insane thing I've read was, " What Obama truly did was a good thing. Saying that he "dissed" handicapped people is an insult, to Obama and to handicapped people." Wow, just... wow. So now what he said is a GOOD thing. "No need to apologize Mr. President. Wow, I'm surprised I'm getting irritated by this, but some of the comments are ridiculous.Morgan, you're absolutely right. If it were Bush, this would be the last straw. I'm not saying Obama is a bad guy for this, but so many people are so up on him as the Second Coming that he can do no wrong. Obama WAS taking a shot at disabled people, diminishing their contributions and capabilities (despite overcoming huge obstacles) by making that joke. Heck, he wouldn't have made that heartfelt apology otherwise. As far as saying he is just "human" or is just a guy, well, he is held up to a higher standard. That's why we don't just put any old schmuck in office. The same reason we criticize him for this is the same reason we put so much stock in what he has to say when he has good ideas. We LISTEN to the guy and hang on his every word, because it's so important. |

Everyone's just making a big deal out of it for something to do.To everyone who says the comment was messed up: if you were out with your friends, and they made a joke like "man i suck, i should be in the special olympics" you'd laugh, wouldn't you?

I thought it was funny. If anything, he was making fun of himself if you look at the context it was in.
I'm really happy having a president with a sense of humour, who I am easily able to understand is human, who isn't a puppet for anyone, who has a personality and real thoughts and feelings.
I like the fact that he went on Leno. To me that says he cares about the US as people, as well as the younger demographics (16-25) who usually watch late night talk shows. It shows us his human side, which makes me have far more respect for him than I would if he acted like a political android.
A lot of people in the states simply WANT something to make drama over and pretend to be so greatly offended about. And how much do you want to bet that the hugest deal about this was launched by the GOP?
It's all a battle of opposing politics, in my opinion, and not morality.

Reading through the comments it seems like pretty much everyone outside of the USA doesn't think it should be offensive. (Such as myself, mehh, Spartano3, DVLDRVR666)I guess you look at it very differently when the guy in question is actually ruling your country. |

I don't think that should offend. The special olympics are for people with disabilities, and all he's saying is that he has a disability when it comes to bowling, although it's not quite as dramatic as missing limbs or anything.I don't think he means to say disabled people are bad at sports, just that they have a disadvantage, and so does he. |
