Sunday, May 10, 2009 12:16:51 AM This is 2 people in 1 day i know of that has died because of being tasered. MAYBE you shouldn't always use those when that can't calm someone down? those are very powerful things if someone is high above the ground or has a bad heart you should never use those. HOW SAD to die because you might have been acting crazy one night STOP the tasering. |

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 1:02:22 AM Kinda late coming back to this discussion, but just wanted to add this:Sure having laws against weapon for citizens might make it more difficult for small-timer criminals to get them. But it's doubtful. What it would do, however, is ensure that whatever government body is in place had absolute power and would be impossible to overthrow should the need arise. Gun control does in fact work quite well . . . at keeping the people from being able to defend themselves--not just from criminals--from the Government. Do you remember why we left England in the first place? And how did we win our independence? That's right: Militia! The right to bear arms is in the constitution to ensure we have the ability, if it becomes necessary, to fight back and overthrow any leadership that may come need such. And yes, we do think it's a real possibility. It wouldn't be the first time. One of the first things Hitler did at the start of the Holocaust was to ban all guns and weapons for Jew |

Monday, February 16, 2009 8:38:31 PM Judging solely from the witness commentary, the admitted use of an electric weapon as well as pepper spray, and the statement that the police discovered he wasn't breathing... I'm guessing O.D. and NOT death by Taser (R). |

Monday, February 16, 2009 10:54:45 AM Continued...Sure, criminals will find a way to get guns and other weapons, but once they are illegal, you can crack down on those ways. Do you not realise that more guns in the country whether held by law abiding citizens or not is a bad thing. People kill when they are scared. In a situation where they would not kill if they had a gun. And the police don't need to lower themselves to the level of a criminal. Just take the motherdrater to the ground. There was absolutely NO need to tazor him! |

How would this help? Criminals Break Laws. It's why they're Criminals. Criminals also fight the Police. Law Abiding Citizens Don't Fight the Police. I mean,.... is that actually the way that Americans think (sweeping statement I know, but it seems to be the way). Do you not understand the logic behind this at all! If there are laws against weapons it is HARDER to get them. Not impossible, but harder, therefor there are less weapons around. People don't just go out and buy a gun for protection because they |

Monday, February 16, 2009 4:18:09 AM digganob, british police have to be authorised to use a tazer in certain cituations when the threat is known to have a weapon . If there were stricter laws in the US on the sale of weapons, then in turn, the police would not need to carry such weapons and that wouldn't be an issue. Even if the person is under the influence of drugs or has some form of mental condition. They clearly have no weapon other than their bare hands, for 1 or 2 trained police officers, it is not a difficult job to restrain them, grab their arms behind their backs and force them to the ground. The US is fighting fire with fire. The UK is not perfect, we have a lot of knife crime, but i much prefer the British take on law enforcement than the US

Monday, February 16, 2009 3:14:59 AM [continued].... If your attacker has a weapon, you go to your gun. You give fair warning first (if you have time), and then you shoot. Otherwise you'll be the one in the body-bag. Again, you don't have a lot of time to analyze the situation and decide which is the best course of action. Your primary objective is survival. Secondary is protecting any [innocent] bystanders. Lastly, you want to try to not hurt the perp any more than you have to. (No I'm not a cop, but I did go through the academy) Having said all that: Judging by recent news, it definitely looks like the taser isn't as "non-lethal" as we once thought. |

Monday, February 16, 2009 3:12:53 AM "why are american cops so trigger happy"Because, contrary to what Hollywood would have you believe, they are NOT all Chuck Norris. Most people who attack an officer are either suffering from dementia, or on some sort of drugs. In either case, they don't want to comply with verbal commands, and they likely feel little-to-no pain. You need to disable them. Imagine: You're a cop. You have an arsenal of weapons on your bat-utility-belt. An unarmed man comes charging at you (or another [innocent] person), obviously wanting to fight. Do you forgo all your gadgets and wrestle him down with your bare hands? You have 1.5 seconds to decide. (I'm being generous) If you answered "Yes.", then you've given him about a 50% chance to kill you with one of your own weapons. You always "one-up" the aggressor. If he's unarmed, you go to pepper spray, taser, or baton (so-called "Non-lethal" methods of control). If your attacker has a weapon, you go t |

Sunday, February 15, 2009 9:24:09 PM there's been a couple hundred cases of people dying from police tasering. I wonder how long before they stop being used. Or maybe we can keep using them ...as a sort of population control. |
