Speaking from a band member and songwriter point of view, having a song that sounds the same as another is fairly easy considering a lot of bands use other songs as inspiration. And chord progression is a common thread amongst MANY songs.Bands have been known to take sounds from other bands, as well as from classical music (See Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve... Awful similar to Grieg's In the Hall of the Moutain King.) |

I reckon that they stole it. Coldplay sucks anyways. Joe should just go over there and kick Chris right in his narrow as*. Not just for stealing his song but for naming his daughter Apple. Jesus what where they thinking?  |

I like Coldplay <.<But anywho, there are bound to be some similarities between songs over time. They are strikingly alike, but I don't think Coldplay conciously decided to "steal the rip". lol |

JGESS, Vanilla Ice Didn't get away with it... however, it's not the same situation. Copyright laws are pretty touchy when it comes to borrowing songs. It's not an exact copy of the music, and there's several differences... enough that there's reallt not a case.Vanilla Ice on the other hand, just added two notes to Freddie Mercury's melody. That's just blatant theft. |

No offense but that's not the most original chord progression I've ever heard. A melody like that is fairly simplistic and wouldn't be hard to come up with several times over if someone didn't do their research to see if anyone had used it. |

seriously .. alot of ppl have same chord progressions and such, if seriously break down alot of songs within a genre it will all almost b the same.. thats y ppl latch on wen they hear a "new" sound.. also this video makes me want to listn to the song now .. say wat u like about coldplay, they make thier money lol |

Before everyone starts moaning about Coldplay stealing from a "revered and reknowned" guitarist (not my words, I don't like Satriani) another couple of bands have come out and claimed the music was originally theirs and Satriani "stole" it for his song |

The first thing I noticed was the sicknasty key change for the Coldplay song. Sure, they're trying to make a point, but it just sounds worse. I mean, at least to me. |

Well the chord progression being the same isn't copying cause I mean...there are only so many chord combinations or scales you can do. And if it's the same scale, there are gonna be similiar melodies too, I only spotted about 1 or 2 bars that had the same melody and then it diverts. I bet there are a million billion songs with a similiar melody, it's just how it is, music in this style isn't infinate. That's why music gets pooter n pooter each decade. |

Coldplay is not only talentless, but stupid too. To steal from such a revered and reknowned guitar god like Satriani just shows the level of ratty-tardation they are afflicted with. "Surfing with the Alien" is one of the greatest Albums ever made, every song is solid and true. |
