Tuesday, December 09, 2008 10:58:21 PM Listen to Single by New Kids on the Block featuring Ne-Yo.Same general beginning of the riff. If artists were killed for sounding similar or even exactly (for a portion of the song) the same as another, then we'd have a Whole lot more dead guys with instruments. |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 8:14:29 PM the only reason i said i don't care is because this guy is sinking just as low by suing coldplay, its insulting to music as an art form to turn it into just a game of who's making money off of who. |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 8:06:23 PM I can't believe people are saying stuff like "who cares if they stole it or not?"I think the answer to that is: EVERYBODY. If it's a coincidence, then fine. If it's a RIP-OFF, then f*ck them...or any musician who rips off someone else's creation and then pawns it off as their own. There's nothing more slimy than someone saying, "I wrote that!" when in reality they just ripped it off. It's like that loser guy that gives some chick a poem that he "wrote" when in reality he just copied it from a book of poems, or grabbed it from some 70's lyrics. |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 6:14:33 PM Ok, so I analyzed it and this might be wrong, but: Coldplay's tune goes VI VII III i in F minor, and Satriani's goes iv VII III i in B minor. The only difference harmonically is that Coldplay's progression starts with VI and Satriani's... Read More starts with iv, but the difference is pretty much negligible because VI is just the upper extensions of iv so the sound is very similar. And they are the same tempo within a few BPM, and they have essentially the same melody. That's a hell of a coincidence. |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 5:56:48 PM That ending audio sounds so much better than both songs individually.--and TDK master, based on what you typed, I've come to the conclusion that you obviously don't know what chord progression is or actually, have any musical ear whatsoever. Anyways, with all due respect, I don't see how someone can not find that the peices of music used in this video are similar. The only thing different that I hear is instrumentation due to the genre shift. And the background has a different rhythm while keeping the same harmony. But I could totally imagine a guitar soloist going onstage at some coldplay concert and playing that. It fits too well. And hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they did steal from him. Though steal may be a somewhat harsh word for this, since you can only have so many variations in a song since chances are, it's been done before, by someone. |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 3:19:27 PM Yeah, they're really similar. Coldplay sucks. They've only come out with one song I can can stand, The Scientist. Viva La Vida is awful. :/ |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 2:52:06 PM "With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write or have any influence upon the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavours. Coldplay."taken from coldplaying.com |

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 2:27:32 PM "Seriously. It's become laden under some secret contract that almost all new artists must rip-off an old song."If i could fly isn't an old song, it was only released like five years ago, and Viva La vida was released a year ago. Its only four years apart. |
