imo they just shouldn't make it. akira was amazing and doesn't need to be remade, especially since it will definitely be ruined by hollywood. |

*sigh* reponding to a troll but kenny_f - how about hollywood? with all the comic book licences starting to dry up, most decentbooks having at least two movies based on them and a lot of genres suffering from huge cliches in writting, hollywood has turned to asian fiction with remakes of oldboy, ghost in the shell, akira and battle angel alita lined up pretty soon you'll be watchinganime plotlines without even realising it |

the very same thing happened when people who'd only seen the ghost in the shell film tried to review the stand alone complex series and complained because the tachikoma were present - oshii having removed them because ironicly he couldn't see them for the investigation into human behaviour that they were (yeah i know in the manga they werent tachikoma they were fuchikoma but other than a slight redesign and a colour change they are the same thing) |

oh yeah like you couldnt guess this would start a sh*tstorm for a user with a name like "mangamonkey"bluethen - akira wasnt just good for its time, it was made in 1986, it was still looking better than its contemporaries up to ten years later i'm obviously worried about how this film is going to turn out, but my biggest worry given that the film-makers are attempting the mnga plot and not the anime plot is that hordes of people claiming to be fans will slag the film off without looking at theright source material, same goes for the oldboy remake, its going to be based on the manga too so when changes from the first film are spotted its going to cause a sh*tstorm
