Wednesday, October 22, 2008 1:42:20 AM Wow! Not only did they manage to cycle through a stationary traffic jam, they then cycled along an empty car pool lane. Surely the ultimate in extreme cycling... |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:57:11 PM > DarthJay > yeah cyclers do deserve to be on the road...Yeah, as soon as they start paying Registration, MAIB and 3rd Party Insurance, Road Usage Excise and start obeying the road rules like the rest of us, THEN they deserve to be on the road. Until then, keep off. We paid for it. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:30:11 PM "And 15mph for a cyclist is hardly anything. Most cyclists can hold faster than that for over 100mile distances."A professional cyclist in a peloton, yes. Your average cyclist, I don't think so. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 5:39:14 PM Dude, I do that a lot.I'm too poor for a car. T_T And screw that, pavement's the only way to get around here. I'm not biking through grass or staying in my neighborhood just because I can't afford a car. Build sidewalks, then we'll talk. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 4:37:15 PM ""yeah cyclers do deserve to be on the road..."Then don't bitch and moan when I run you down for going 15mph in a 45mph zone. :P" In England it's illegal for cyclists to cycle on pavements...Don't know about over there. And 15mph for a cyclist is hardly anything. Most cyclists can hold faster than that for over 100mile distances. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:42:04 AM freddyferret - I'm not saying motorists don't break the rules, I'm just saying that I see a heck of a lot of cyclists breaking them, too. For instance, there is a pretty major road I have to drive on to get to and from work. Speed limit is 45 and there is a REALLY big sidewalk on either side...but do the cyclists drive on it? No. They'd rather cruise down the road at 15mph and bring traffic to a slowdown because they "deserve" to be on the road. Then they flip me off when I honk at them - JUST like I would honk at a car that was going 15mph when the speed limit is 45. Then when we all have to stop at the light at the end of the road when it's red, all the bikers slow down to be sure no traffic is coming and go right on through.I don't mean to generalize, but for the most part bikers in my area are a-holes. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:34:12 AM Driving on the downtown streets of any major East Coast city is more dangerous than that. Not impressed at all. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:30:24 AM That wasn't as dangerous/stupid as I expected. It looked like Los Angeles traffic. You could ride through that without any problems when it's bad. Around here I think you'd get arrested for being on the freeway, but maybe it's ok wherever they were. Traffic does get bad here but nothing like that and freeway riding here wouldn't be as smart or safe.DarthJay, cyclists do have to follow the same rules. I've seen cyclists getting tickets too. But every day I see people in cars running lights or stop signs. As far as minimum speed limits go, that's usually only on the freeways where there are no stop lights or signs. The point is, a LOT more people in cars break the laws that you're griping about cyclists breaking. Just today a woman was in front of me in a parking garage. She'd stop at every turn and look around. When we got out she ran two stop signs. So don't gripe about cyclists breaking the law when a hell of a lot more drivers do that and worse. |

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:40:32 AM I'm sorry to all you cyclists out there - but you PISS ME OFF!! You want to ride on the road, you need to follow the same rules I have to follow. That means you can't run red lights and stop signs and you must adhere to the minimum speed limit. If you can't do that, kindly GTFO. |
