The alternative was to stop the car and taser him or shoot him. Shooting would be fatal most probably as it would have been at close range and the shot would have to stop him. Tasering might not have worked and by then the officer would have been carved into with the knife.
The cop did the right thing. |

This guy was armed, dangerous and needed taking out of public as fast and effectively as possible. Would say that had been achieved here! Well done to the officer for not actually causing the man more damage through correct driving procedures! |

If the cop did this intentionally I would support the cop in this situation. Now we can't see the cops head in this video. But knowing from my driving experience, whenever I turn I look in the direction of the most threatening thing; in this case the road and oncoming traffic.
As I turn into the parking lot I, again, look at the most threatening thing; the other car.
Now this doesn't mean I don't pay attention to other things.
Peripheral vision does wonders, and being in marching band really helps with that. Have you ever had a 5 pound piece of wood, or a 10 foot pole coming towards your head? Probably not, but I have, and I have avoided those things. If you read this, go back and watch the guy hit the hood: THUD! |

A deadly weapon is just that, whether it's a knife, an icepick, or a shotgun. Deadly force is authorized under those conditions, and cops are allowed to use their vehicles as weapons, just as you and I are, if the circumstances warrant it; e.g., if some lunatic is trying to kill you. And getting hit by a car is way less life-threatening than getting hit in the chest with one or more bullets. I accidentally hit a guy once who drunkenly darted out into traffic. His head smashed my windshield, and left a dent in it with bits of scalp and hair stuck in it. He was out cold, but the paramedics said he had a bad concussion, but would probably be fine. That guy didn't get hit anywhere near that bad. |

I am gonna say he didnt mean to hit him and wasnt expecting him to run at him. Also the police have to do what they have to do to protect themselves, if they cant get out of the car to take him down then use what you have. |

This guy was armed. Technically, officers are allowed to use deadly force when faced with an armed man or woman, and/or when they feel as if their life, or another's, is being threatened. In this video, it shows the guy had already jumped onto the hood of a cruiser, wielding a knife. Already, that's like an assault on an officer. (If ramming a cop car is assault on an officer, jumping onto their cruiser with a knife has to be as well.) If not assault, that's already damage to property.
But seriously, this guy was running at the cop car. If he had not been running at it, he may not have gotten hit. Yet, he was, and with a knife. He's lucky.And those saying it was an uneven match, car against man, or that a knife was harmless against a car... that is just stupid. Vehicle or not, this man was a threat. If he had a chance to hurt an officer, or worse, kill one, I bet you anything he would have done it. Stop feeling sorry for the guy who broke the law. |

What did you want the cop to do? Wait till the guy was on his windshield trying to smash it, and then shoot through it hurting him even more? I swear, some people on this website are dumb as a bag of rocks, and that's giving most of them a compliment. |

Problem here. The police care was going fast. Intentional or not, it was too fast, and the officer should be charged with something. He could have very well hit the person at less then ten miles and hour and knocked him up onto the hood, then back down onto the ground. No serious injuries, but enough to take the guy down. Not only that, but the force was also intensified by the guy running at him.The officer has something to atone for. There were many ways to keep the person from getting too seriously injured like he was." Okay, how about we have someone chase after you with a knife and then lets see how rational you are. I bet you will still want to not hurt the guy, huh? The cop had every right to kill this douchebag, he's lucky to be alive. If you run after someone with a knife, and they have a gun, you should expect to be shot. I have no sympathy for idiots who think they are invincible. |

If you are ever being chased by a crazy man with a knife or in any other situation that requires immediate assistance from Law Enforcement or any other Emergency Service, I hope someone tells them to slow down as you do not want them "driving too fast"... They might hurt the squirrels. |

Who cares if he is mentally ill or not. How many murders or attacks are from mentally ill people? He was obviously dangerous and why should the officer endanger himself by getting out of the car. Personally I think everything went ok, Not like he backed up over him. |
