Thursday, July 31, 2008 10:00:56 PM They actually do celebrate Christmas in Japan, although it doesn't have the same meaning. It's more of a commercial holiday, you know, Santa, presents, Christmas tree etc., and it doesn't have any of the religious subtext it has here in the states |

Thursday, July 31, 2008 12:26:56 PM Isn't it strange how almost any cake they have HAS to have strawberries on it? Kinda like traditional frostings for us... |

Thursday, July 31, 2008 9:57:17 AM I wonder if that was an interpretation of fruit cake because why would it have strawberries on it? |

Thursday, July 31, 2008 9:25:56 AM Going by the subtitles, this was probably a program meant for teaching Japanese children how to speak English, much like how Dora the Explorer and other similar programs teach American children how to speak Spanish. |

Thursday, July 31, 2008 8:56:54 AM "I don't think they have a Japanese word for "Christmas". So they say it in English.Just a guess though, but I'm pretty sure that's it." That would be the "Christmas" part, yeah - they say "kurisumasu" instead of having a different word for it. There are a lot of Japanese words that are actually borrowed phonetically from other languages, especially English. The fact that one was speaking in so much English could have been for many reasons, though. One possible reason is the same reason they use English randomly in a lot of their music - they think it's cool. Also, since it appeared to be a program for chilren, maybe it was supposed to teach them some English? |

Thursday, July 31, 2008 8:26:32 AM Yes, Christmas is about trees and cake. I'm glad other countries are able to understand our customs so well. XD |

Thursday, July 31, 2008 6:12:52 AM And more importantly why was one tiger speaking English (in a horribly fake american accent) and one speaking [for the most part] Japanese? Was it for a dual-language audience or something? |
