Friday, July 11, 2008 8:08:05 AM Also, catbarf: A bush would be good cover, no doubt, but the branches don't move much. A person running around moves more, and so will draw the sentry's fire. What's more, a bush only moves a noticable amount in medium-high winds. And loridiam: It went back to those spots once it detected no movement because that's where it was set up pointing. That's where it goes at rest. If you wind up some y-axis rotating platform mounted on a stationary spring, the platform will return to where it was mounted. The same applies for the sentry. |

Friday, July 11, 2008 7:59:34 AM When I buy one, I'll gut it (like a cornish game hen) and remount it in a level 1 sentry body, which I should start making. Then I'll buy two more, and mount those in a level 2 sentry body. |

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 12:07:07 PM Firstly, the military sorta has something like this coming, by Samsung. Only it uses a real machine gun. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...Secondly... it -can- differentiate. |

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 8:36:58 AM Pretty cool but the video was way too long. I didn't need to see 15 demos of the same thing. It would be a neat little thing to have. |

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 7:32:57 AM "Friend/Foe identification is a matter solved with something as simple as IR tape or fabric in a team-specific pattern."The gun is built to track movement. Neither of those would help. "(As for wind... when did WIND become visible?)" Never seen a bush move in the wind? Or branches on a tree? "Your condescending attitude totally sucks ass." I'm not condescending towards the guy who made this- it's amazing development with easily-available parts, and it works well enough. I'm condescending towards the idiots drooling over it as the second coming of christ. "Why was it constantly aiming at the window coincidently on the side the distracting object was being thrown. " When it no longer has an active target it moves back to the default position. |

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 3:12:04 AM I'm thinking this is slightly fake. I'll agree that it shoots things on movement yes. But the whole distraction bit seemed a bit dodgey to me. Why was it constantly aiming at the window coincidently on the side the distracting object was being thrown. And also the distracting object was always thrown first, throw it after you start moving and see what happens. Otherwise its cool as hell... i wonder would it trigger onto bubbles... easy way to make it run out of ammo... sit behind the board and blow bubbles LOL!!! |

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 2:32:57 AM Keep in mind that this is going to be fairly expensive, depending, of course, on how high powered of a laptop you need for the software. It could come without the laptop, and that would keep the cost down quite a bit. |

Tuesday, July 08, 2008 9:00:33 PM And Catbarf... this guy isn't DARPA. He's come very close to the concept of several DARPA projects that have recently been made public... and he's apparently done it on his own.Your condescending attitude totally sucks ass. |
