TO EVERYONE THAT ASKED WHAT THE POP WAS:When you are arming a hand grenade there are multiple steps. 1) Pull out the safety pin. The safety pin prevents the "spoon" from coming off. The "spoon" has a spring behind it and when the spoon is detached the fuse is set. 2) Remove the spoon. It usually detaches itself in midair when thrown, but if you pull the safety pin out without the thumb firmly holding down the spoon it will fly off all on its own, as can be seen in the video. 3) Throw :) |

That bang you hear, it's not the handle popping off, it's the hammer hitting the blasting cap that ignites the fuse. The handle comes of before that happens.A squadmate of mine did something similar to this during basic training, he pulled the pin, threw the grenade and hit the top of the trench he was standing in, causing the grenade to bounce back and land neatly at his feet. He survived, but only because the captain tackled him around a bend. |

I'd like to see u do that to an Atom-Bomb, First u'd activate the warhead with ur teeth, then u 'accidently' drop it into a pond, u and ur instructors back you 10 steps away from the pond. Will it be enough then?....this is your answer.

yea that pre-pop was the handle type thing on it, once u pull the pin that is released, if he was holding it smarter he actually could ahve held that and the grenade would not have gone off, but it popped of.@mike, the other dude obviously knew what he was doing he had him do it by water, water would obsorb most of the explosion adn he pulled him away. |

I hate how many people don't understand the dangers of grenades. They are nothing like what you see in movies/video games. They have a 15-metre lethal range, so this could have ended extremely badly... |

That pop was after the pin is pulled,the the bar to hold onto disconnects and flies away

While I think they are idiots, I can still understand why he dropped it. Think about it. He's holding a bomb, a deadly weapon, and it makes a loud noise in his hands. Of cours he's gonna drop it...
