Friday, January 18, 2008 10:30:03 AM So the ants moved over 40 tonnes of earth, just so some trummped up geek can go flood the whole colony with cement. Thats just destructive, hands up who now wants to go find out where that guy lives and pump his house full of cement killing his whole family, just so they can see what the inside of his house looks like. |

Friday, January 18, 2008 9:33:13 AM I don't think its the ants people feel sorry for as much as the whole city of ants that was destroyed. Yes there are massive amounts of billions of ants but its like destroying NYC and saying well there are still thousands of other cities and billions of people left. Ants aren't equal to people in that sense but it is a shame to see something that intricate and something that took so much work to create destroyed. It seems like an awful waste. |

Friday, January 18, 2008 12:41:53 AM Hey I know let's pretend we're all scientists and start destroying and killing things. Gotta go out and cut open a few people ... hey I'm a scientist! |

Friday, January 18, 2008 12:34:51 AM Absolutely stunning! But a couple of questions - how do so many individual ants build something that to a human's opinion has beend not only designed, but designed as by a single mind? Also, I presume ants haven't always been so sophisticated (in the same way that humans haven't always been so sophisticated) so when did they learn/discover that a) they require air or b) need to get rid of the CO2 and c) they can use the temperature of the dirt to circulate air? I know, I know millions of years blah blah, natural selection, but ants aren't renowned for sticking their necks out and experimenting - we tend to think of them as automatons don't we? Incredible. I eat meat so I don't mind animals dying (so long as it's as humane as possible) but the beauty of that nest - we almost need to reward the ants for it rather than just kill them. that said, if one bit me, I'd kill it. Slo-o-o-o-wly. |

Thursday, January 17, 2008 11:57:29 PM I was amazed until they started pouring concrete in there. Then it became a little less enjoyable. |

Thursday, January 17, 2008 11:17:21 PM WOW. It's amazing how insects you step on everyday can create such amazing stuff. Makes you wonder if they have some form of intelligent communication that we can't even begin to imagine...if not it's hard to believe something that complex could be made. |

Man, those ants are the fuc|<ing shiz. They're pretty intelligent. I would pay them to make my cheese colony.

Thursday, January 17, 2008 10:49:10 PM Glad I didn't watch it all the way through. I saw the first ant close up, and started reminiscing about Anty from "Honey I Shrunk the Kids", and then I got that bad feeling, that all of those ants were doomed, just like Anty. I remembered the heartbreak I felt when Anty saved the children from the Scorpion, sacrificing himself for his new human friends. So I couldn't bring myself to watch it. Sucks that it turned out poorly for the ants, but what else were they going to do? I mean, scientists study, and I'm pretty sure that killing the ants was less cruel than saving all of them and taking away their home. They just prevented the inevitable, really. And think about how much we will learn from all of your new bestest ant friends. They're martyrs of the insect world. |

Thursday, January 17, 2008 8:50:05 PM Not to say that I think killing ants is wrong... I admit to not sympathizing with them, and thinking of them as an annoyance. It's just that to ruin something so amazing like that.... If only for the structure itself, they shouldn't have touched it. |
